Installing macOS High Sierra on a Mac Pro 5,1 2010-2012

03:35
Alright first up, unfortunately you can't just install a Time Machine backup of a Mac that has High Sierra (before you've updated your firmware). I tried that, and while the installer does let you do it, you'll end up with a Mac that doesn't boot. WHERE TO BUY Mac Pro: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=mac+pro+2010 SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support What you need to do is go to the App Store on another Mac and download the High Sierra Installer. While that's doing that, head to https://macdaddy.io/install-disk-creator/ and download the disk creator utility. You'll need a USB drive to use as the installer. In the Disk Creator app just select the USB as the target and the MacOS High Sierra Installer.app as the installer and wait while it copies over the files. Plug in the USB into the Mac Pro, and hold down the alt key after powering it on. Once you get to the boot selector screen select the USB installer. In the installer, it'll tell you that you need to install a firmware patch for the Mac Pro. To do that, you need to shut down the Mac - unfortunately for me none of the menus worked, so I had to do a hard shutdown by holding on to the power button. To install the firmware patch, hold down and keep hold of the power button until you hear the only PC speaker style beep. The first time I did this it didn't work, so I took off all my USBs and tried again. You should see an apple logo and a progress upgrade screen. Note the progress update doesn't go all the way, so don't be scared when your Mac shuts off at the 90% mark. Now the firmware is installed, start up your Mac holding down the alt key and selecting the USB installer. It'll then let you go ahead and install High Sierra. You can even restore a Time Machine backup of your MacBook Pro - though this took a good 12 hours for me. And that's it your Mac Pro is now living the High life. FILMING TOOLS http://vtudio.com/tools

Apple Mac Pro 5,1 CPU Upgrade Guide | 6-Core Xeon X5690 3.46Ghz

In this video we upgrade a 2010-12 Mac Pro to its maximum single CPU configuration of a 6-core Xeon X5690 CPU. WHAT YOU'LL NEED M3 (3mm wide) Hex key which is around 5 inches in length http://vtudio.com/a/?e=extra+long+m3+3mm+130mm+hex+key Thermal paste remover - for this I used ArctiClean 1 & 2 http://vtudio.com/a/?a=ArctiClean+60ml Lint free micro-fibre cloth or equivalent http://vtudio.com/a/?e=lint-free-microfibre Thermal paste - I used Arctic Silver 5 http://vtudio.com/a/?a=Arctic+Silver+5 New CPU - I used the maximum configurable CPU the Xeon X5690 http://vtudio.com/a/?e=xeon+x5690 RECOMMENDED VIDEOS Mac Pro 5,1 Review: https://youtu.be/3cvhXpCws_A Upgraded Mac Pro Performance: https://youtu.be/1EtDAGzqZz8 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 CPU Upgrade: https://youtu.be/YAdgT-hJuXU 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 CPU Upgrade: https://youtu.be/ZTVmDPb2nKE SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support WARNING Installing a CPU is tricky, this guide is purely made for educational purposes only to share my experience upgrading my personal system. I do not take responsibility with what you do to your system. STEPS The hex key you need is size M3 which means 3mm wide, and the length of the one I'm using is 130mm which is around 5 inches in length. As you can see it fits in nicely in the holes provided with leeway of around an inch. To unscrew rotate anti-clockwise, as there's several screws I worked my way around twice, the first time unscrewing it mostly, then the second time fully unscrewing it, to not put too much pressure uneven pressure on the CPU underneath. To remove the thermal paste, I used ArcticClean 1 which is the thermal material remover, I first applied it to the heatsink, then used a lint-free microfibre cloth to remove the residue. I then applied ArticClean 2 which is the surface purifier on the heatsink the same way. The old CPU can be easily removed by pushing down and swiping away the lock, and opening the CPU tray. I also cleaned up the CPU using the ArcticClean set - as I had lots of it remaining. The CPU goes in one correct way only - this can be identified by matching the ridges of the CPU with the one's on the CPU tray. Also if you look at the bad of the cpu, the corners which are diagonally flat, match with the corners of the cpu tray. Push the tray down and lock it in with the spring lock. Next, I applied ArcticClean 1 with a lit-free microfibre cloth to purify the lid. Before placing a dot of thermal paste on the centre of the CPU. Now there are several different methods of applying thermal paste, this is the one I chose after doing the research, and I've been using my machine fine with no overheating problems, so I'm happy to recommend it. Before closing the lit and celebrating, I ran two intensive applications, first cinebench, and more importantly geekbench, you'll know you've done a good job if there's no red blinking light on the motherboard, if so you've got problems. TROUBLESHOOTING First up, when removing the thermal paste, the first time I did it I followed a guide that suggested I used a cotton ear bud - do not do this, as normal cloths and ear buds leave small stringy hairs known as lint. Secondly, make sure you run CPU intensive applications before closing up shop as if you do notice that red blinking light on the motherboard, it usually means that the CPU is overheating, which suggests that you haven't applied thermal paste of the heatsink isn't attached properly. In my case I had incorrectly followed a guide for upgrading a 2009 Mac Pro and hadn't fully tightened the heatsink. So after making sure the heatsink was tightened, all was good in the world. CONCLUSION After the upgrade as you can see the performance of the Mac Pro's CPU pretty much doubled. Classic Mac Pro RAM Upgrade Guide (2010-2012)

04:26
I remember when I was trying to figure out the RAM options for my new Classic Mac, I would zoom into all the videos I could find on YouTube to screenshot what ram modules was being used out there so in this video I'm going to try to be as descriptive as possible for my choices to hopefully help anyone else out there upgrading their Mac for the first time. WHERE TO BUY PC3-10600E RAM: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=PC3-10600E+RAM Mac Pro: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=mac+pro+2010 Officially the single CPU Mac Pro 5,1 supports upto 16GB, but unofficially you can go up to 48gb and if you have a dual cpu 128gb. It requires PC3-10600E, 1333 MHz, DDR3 SDRAM UDIMMs, 72-bit wide, 240-pin. - The E stands for Error Correcting Code, but unofficially you can get R versions too. I personally went for 32gb of Hynix branded memory which consisted of 4 8GB 2RX4 ECC registered memory modules. Primarily, because I found a good deal on eBay for around $100. ECC Registered memory is donated with 10600R instead of 10600E. 2RX4 is the memory rank. So when buying memory make sure you get the same ECC type and rank type for all your modules as mixing and matching can cause issues. I've had my setup for half a year now and haven't noticed any problems with the RAM so I'm happy to recommend it. I also managed to sell off my original RAM sticks for about half the price, so upgrading for me was a good deal. The upgrade process was very very simple, just open up the case using the latch. Pull out the CPU tray using its latch. Pull the latches around the current installed ram to pop them out one by one. Insert the new modules. Slot the CPU tray back in. Fire up the computer to make sure it boots ok, if it does you should be good to close up the case. Install Windows 10 via Boot Camp on Older Mac Pro via DVD [Best for Non-EFI GPU]

06:45
Hey guys, in this video I'm going to be showing you how to install Windows 10 via DVD using a modified version of Boot Camp Assistant on an unsupported Mac, which in my case is a 2010 Mac Pro. This way allows you to install Windows using a non-Mac compatible graphics card like a RX 580, but if you do have a mac compatible graphics card and would rather not burn a DVD, you should check out the Boot Camp via USB guide instead. COMPANION VIDEOS Via Boot Camp USB: https://youtu.be/C52rH7LjdjQ Without Boot Camp: https://youtu.be/d0XtZjuMTNk WHERE TO BUY Windows 10: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=windows+10 PATREONS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. https://www.patreon.com/vtudio/community WARNING Installing Windows is generally safe, but you can accidentally select the wrong disk to format and end up wiping macOS, so be very careful to select the BOOTCAMP partition. Proceed at your own risk. GUIDE Alright first up, if you don't already have a copy of Windows, just jump on google and get a copy of the latest iso from the Microsoft website. Once downloaded, right click the file and select burn and burn it on a DVD. If you press command space, you'll see that by default Boot Camp won't allow you to install Windows 10. But, don't worry you can enable it by modifying the app. Just go into Finder - Applications - Utilities. Make a copy of Boot Camp Assistant and right click on the copy and select Show Package Contents. You then want to open up the Info.plist with TextEdit. Inside you want to search for NonWin10Models - Where you should see your Mac version listed, in my case I'll just remove the entry MacPro5,1. Now if you launch the modified Boot Camp Assistant app, it should say Install Windows 7 or later version. Insert a USB drive in, and select it to be used for installing the Boot Camp drivers to. After your USB drive is prepared, you'll be able to select how much space you want to give Windows. Now be careful at this stage as it's really hard to modify the amount of space after setting, so pick a size you're happy with. Boot Camp Assistant will now go ahead and try to reset your computer to Windows, but note it does take around 5 minutes to boot from the DVD drive. Go ahead and select your region and input your product key. When you get to the Where do you want to install Windows screen, select the BOOTCAMP labelled partition. Windows will at this stage require you to format the partition to NTFS. Note, this won't affect macOS, just the new partition you selected earlier when you split your drive up. If after formatting Windows complains of a 0x80300024 error, that just means it's confused about which drive it should install Windows still. In my case, I was installing Windows on a PCIe SSD drive and I needed to unplug the SATA drive I had plugged in. Once unplugged, I was able to continue. After the install, Windows will restart your computer, but in my case into the DVD installer. So, I had to eject the DVD out, but as the SuperDrive eject button is behind the case, it was more work than it should have been. Once the DVD is out, Windows should continue to install. Alright, that's pretty much it, finish up the installer, go ahead and install the Boot Camp drivers and reboot your machine. You might notice that your screen is a little stretched at first, but after Windows update has finished updating the drivers for your graphics card, all should be good in the world. One thing to note is that some users have experienced issues when swapping the PCI slots of the graphics cards, so it's worth making sure you have your go to graphics card in the slot you plan on using it long term. Finally, to get back into macOS you can use the Boot Camp app. Unfortunately, if you are using a non-Mac compatible graphics card, as the boot manager isn't loaded, it'll just reboot you back into Windows. So to get around this, you can either have both your Mac compatible graphics card and your non-Mac compatible graphics card plugged into your Mac at the same time, or reset the PRAM every-time you want to reboot back into macOS - which unfortunately is very tedious. Once back in macOS you can always reboot back into Windows again from System Preferences - Startup Disk. Alright, I hope you found this guide useful, and I'd love to hear how the install went for you. MacBook Pro 2018 (i9 vs i7 2.6) Battery Life and Performance Review

16:41
One of these machines is faster AND has better battery life.. Can you guess which? In this video we go deep into the world of performance pitting the i7 2.6GHz against the i9 2.9GHz, showing you how it performs in various situations from Cinebench, Xcode, Final Cut Pro, Crypto, Windows, CPU Encoding, Web Browsing, Battery Life and More! WHERE TO BUY MacBook Pro i9: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=macbook+pro+i9 MacBook Pro i7: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=macbook+pro+i7 Best MacBook USB-C Hub: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=usb-c+hub+flush COMPANION VIDEOS Prime95 CPU Torture Test: https://youtu.be/ym9oVxMNomI Intel XTU: https://youtu.be/SBgcMHx5AmM Gaming: https://youtu.be/fmP6ShvPxzs Fan Noise: https://youtu.be/6PjDZ02nXtw SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support CINEBENCH After 4 consecutive runs, Cinebench clocked in with 990 on the i9 and 942 on the i7, with matching CPU temps and fan noise levels. In the OpenGL test the i9 clocked in 5-6 frames higher than the i7 in both runs. CODING My Xcode project on the first clean and compile the i9 clocked in 3% faster coming in at 16.1 seconds and the i7 at 16.6, and on the second rebuild, the i9 came in 6% faster with 12.9 seconds and the i7 at 13.7 seconds. For larger codebases, the i9 performed 4% faster at ffmpeg from source, clocking in at 273 seconds, with the i7 clocking 284 seconds. The iOS simulator, well that took only 0.1 seconds longer to launch on the i7 compared to the i9 and using it caused similar heat and fan levels. FINAL CUT Stabilising a 5 minute clip was 6% faster, with the i9 clocking in at 6 minutes and 22 (382) seconds, and the i7 taking 6 minutes and 45 (405) seconds. Exporting the effects heavy BruceX project was only 2 seconds slower on the i7. So to better test the difference, I duplicated BruceX 10 times and exported that, which took the i9 7 minutes and 37 (457) seconds, and the i7 7 minutes 46 (466) seconds which was still only just a 2% difference. For the actual export, exporting a short clip at 1080p best quality, the i7 came in 2 seconds behind the i9. These differences compounded when exporting a longer multicam 10 minute clip. With the i9 taking 26 minutes on the dot and the i7 taking an extra 65 seconds to complete giving the i9 a 4% edge in Final Cut Pro exports. ENCODING For vanilla CPU encoding a 4k DJI drone clip, the i9 took 20 minutes and 15 (1220) seconds to encode 4 minutes of footage, and the i7 took 20 minutes and 48 (1248) seconds, giving the i9 a 2% lead. Interestingly though and we'll be looking into this in detail in the battery life section, the i9 was using slightly less power draw to get the faster speeds compared to the i7. On the i9 after a power limit throttle, the i9 drops lower than the i7 does. MINING Crypto was an easy win for the i9, with 3MBs more L3 cache, it was able to hit 3GHz mining around 200 Hashes a second, with the i7 hitting 2.4GHz mining 120Hashs a second. WEB The world wide web is a perfect place for single and dual core operations, with websites primarily coded in Javascript which is predominately single-threaded. So I figured the i9 might edge loading websites here, but after loading a few sites, the main bottleneck was clearly bandwidth. BATTERY LIFE Alright, this is an interesting one, I ran a comprehensive set of tasks ranging from compiling and running an Xcode iOS app, to playing YouTube to Final Cut Pro playback and export. In the end the i7 drained 1830 milliAmps, and the i9 drained 1603 milliAmps after half an hours usage. Which is a delta of 227 milliAmps, or 14%. With this load of I'd say heavy professional usage compiling code and video editing on a linear scale, the i7 would last 2 hours and the i9 would get you an extra 18 minutes. Looking at the reason why, just take a look at the power management of the units. Even during simple YouTube playbacks the i7 had more aggressive peaks than the i9. This trend continued on every task that requires the unit to get into Turbo. As Turbo requires a lot more power than regular base clock speeds, the i7 would eat into the battery for slightly longer, compounding those small percentage performance decrements into worse battery performance. WINDOWS On gaming, I didn't notice any difference between them as all the games I tried were GPU bound, maybe if you have a beefier eGPU the difference between the i9 and i7 would come into play, but using stock graphics it didn't. Ok, so what's interesting is, when I clocked both units using Intel XTU to use only 30W, the i9 was clocking in 0.1GHz faster than the i7. Mac Tips | How to Disable macOS System Integrity

01:28
System integrity is a protection layer built into macOS since El Capitan which disallows changes to certain system folders. This stops nefarious applications from installing the most harmful form of spyware and viruses. PATREONS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. https://patreon.com/vtudio/community However, some applications on Mac, for example installing graphics drivers for an external GPU. Require you to disable system integrity. The good thing about it is that once you disable it, you can easily use the same method to re-enable it, however for the duration, your system will be exposed. Ok, first up, you have to restart your Mac into recovery mode. To do this, on startup hold down the command and R keys together until you see the apple logo. NOTE: This method works for built in keyboards or keyboards attached via USB. For Bluetooth keyboards you need to wait to hear the startup tone before pressing down the keys. Next you navigate to the system bar where you should see a Utilities menu. If for some reason it's not displayed, simply restart the Mac and try again. In the Utilities menu, select Terminal. csrutil status - checks if system integrity is turned on or off csrutil disable - turns it off csrutil enable - turns it back on Once it's disabled, just reboot your Mac and you're back in business. How to Install new macOS Beta Safely on Separate Partition & High Sierra Performance Tests

03:24
In this video we'll be guiding you how to setup the latest macOS High Sierra beta. We'll be doing it on a separate partition which means you can still use your current version of macOS on the same computer, keeping you safe. But, also showing you how you can still access all the apps and documents from your current macOS from the new macOS High Sierra. PATREONS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. https://patreon.com/vtudio/community RELATED Unboxing the Apple External Graphics DevKit: https://youtu.be/gfuFAnsTb-A First up we're going to create a small partition to install macOS High Sierra on. Now High Sierra takes up around 10GB, so you don't need to allocate much space for it. Partitioning takes around 5 minutes, with this video being sped up. Second, you'll need to download the beta, you can do this by heading on to either the beta.apple.com or the developers.apple.com websites. Which will unlock the app in the App Store app for download. Third, just launch the installer, but remember to select the new partition we just created to ensure you can still use your current macOS. Fourth, wait around 20 minutes for the Mac to reset itself a few times. Next, you just go through the standard setup procedure. The beta has analytics and diagnostics reporting enabled by default, you can always disable this from the privacy option in System Preferences. Now, we're going to enable access to your current version of macOS from High Sierra. To do this you need to head on to Disk Utility and unlock your main partition. If you've encrypted your drive using FileVault, you'll be prompted to input the encryption password for access. Once that's done, in my experience I needed to restart my Mac to actually be able to access the drive. All your apps and documents are now available to you in the new OS, just head to the Applications folder in your main partition and launch. If you haven't restored from a backup, all your app specific settings will need to be re-configured. If you do TimeMachine backup your mac, all will be good in the world. To switch between High Sierra and Sierra, you can do this from either the Startup Disk option in System Preferences. Or when resetting your Mac, hold the alt key and select the partition to boot with. Of course this is still a beta version of the operating system, so performance will improve, but for now I find that exporting a video using Final Cut Pro is around 10% slower in High Sierra when compared to Sierra. OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 SSD Review and Setup Guide

03:34
Cool thing about this card is that it does support Bootcamp after installing the software update. WHERE TO BUY Accelsior E2: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=accelsior+e2 Mac Pro: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=mac+pro+2010 PATREONS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. https://www.patreon.com/vtudio/community GUIDE You get a quick start guide and a spare PCIe frame. The card itself is pretty small, and well sealed. If you turn it to the side you can get a sneak peak of the SSDs underneath the frame. The card also features 2 eSata ports for external hard drives. To install, first lift the case lock, pull down the door. Unscrew the PCIe screw bracket. Remove a PCIe frame - note that the furthest two PCIe slots are slower than the bottom two, but in testing I didn't notice any difference for SSDs device. Next, simply slot in the PCIe card - Something worth underlining is that PCIe slots in your Mac are precious, it's the only thing allowing you to install a graphics card, a 10gbe network card, usb3 cards, so just remember one of these PCIe cards will be taking up one of these spaces. Ok, then rescrew in the bracket. Note - the bracket can be fiddly, but with enough struggle it works. Now turn on your machine and watch the lights flicker. On boot, you'll be greeted with an error message - this is a good thing, it means the Mac recognises the drive. If you launch Disk Utility, you can verify this. Disk speed tests show it writes at 580 mbs and reads at 680 mbs. Which is 6/7 times faster than my spindel Hard disk drive. To get the SSD running as the boot drive, I used an app called SuperDuper. Simply select your current boot drive in the copy section Select the new SSD drive in the to section. By default, it'll erase the ssd, copy the files over and make the ssd bootabe. Now depending on how much stuff you have, will determine how long you have to wait. For me, transferring over around 800gb took over 7 hours. Once it's done, go into System Preferences, Startup Disk, and select the SSD drive as the boot drive. That's it you can now re-purpose your Hard disk drive. If you do want to install Windows via Boot Camp, make sure you also install the Dual Boot Enabler. While doing so you will be prompted to allow the software to be installed by Mac's security policy, so watch out for that too. OVERALL It does exactly what it says on the tin, but at $650 USD for 1TB it's pretty overpriced in today's market. Sold off the RAM and CPU inside and replaced it with a 6 Core 3.46GHz Xeon W5690, 32GB of ECC RAM and a Sapphire Nitro+ RX580. While there are some quirks like having to keep a 2nd Mac compatible graphics card for the boot screen and switching operating systems, it's no where near as bad as building your own Hackintosh, in fact Apple still supports these units with a bios update being pushed out with the release of High Sierra to enable these Macs to support AFPS. Looking into the performance, on Geekbench 3 32bit - the base Mac Pro was about the same speed as the MacBook Pro I was using. However upgrading to a 6 core unit yielded about twice the multicore score, which is about the same level as a mid 2017 i5 iMac. Over to cinebench the score of the base Mac Pro actually beat out the MacBook Pro, but the upgraded Mac Pro yielded an extra 50-70% on top of that. The MacBook Pro couldn't be touched on the read and write speeds even when using a PCIe SSD. However, interestingly enough I didn't notice any real world performance difference using a PCIe SSD over a SATA2 SSD - with SATA2 being the old generation port. Startup speed on the upgraded Mac Pro was 47 seconds using a PCIe or SATA2 SSD. Even though the MacBook Pro had much faster SSD performance according to Blackmagic Disk Speed. Launching Final Cut Pro and photoshop was actually faster on the upgraded Mac Pro. Which is something worth paying attention to, it's not just about the transfer speeds, seek speeds is usually more important as apps then to require lots of different files on launch rather than reading one big file really fast. 4k playback of projects using custom titles still skipped frames until background rendering was used. Which is something even the iMac Pro suffers from. Scrubbing 4k footage sourced on my local NAS was much faster on the upgraded version. Brucex 5k export was 3 times faster than my MacBook Pro. However, one thing that was actually slower by a large margin was video encoding - especially when using non-standard codecs such as the videos you get from DJI drones. That being said, background processing was a lot faster - almost iMac Pro levels fast, and the using the editor was a lot smoother too. Compiling code was much faster. And even though the Mac Pro only supported 802.11n not ac, YouTube finally playbacked 4k at 2x speeds without constantly buffering. Playing games on Parallels at 1080 settings when from 15fps to 29fps. And when gaming on Windows directly it was a night and day difference. One of the coolest things I found was you could actually mine crypto coins in the background and still hit 30fps. If you'd like to use your Mac compatible graphics card alongside your RX 580 for boot loader support, you can always use power from a SATA port from the hard drive bays convert that into a 6 pin with a SATA to 6 pin adapter. POWER DRAW Mini-6 pin typically get you 75W each and the PCI slot gets you 75W, so the maximum power GPU you can get should be 225W. However, on the forums people say that Apple actually allow up to 150W per mini-6 pin port which gives you a maximum draw of 375W. However, other people on the forums say that yes it can draw more but if you draw more you're more likely to damage some of the components. How to Properly Restore from a Time Machine Backup | Mac Tips

02:19
Just got your Mac repaired by Apple and they've wiped out the hard drive? In this guide we walk you through how to fully restore your time machine backup. WHERE TO BUY MacBook: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=macbook iMac Pro: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=imac+pro COMPANION VIDEOS You can find out more about your Macs backup and restore options here: https://youtu.be/IVuhfDcmUVg RESTORE When you receive your new or repaired Mac from Apple it boots straight into the macOS setup screens, while this does provide an option for restoring from Time Machine, it doesn't actually do it. What it does instead is copy select files and folders from your backup over to your new machine. What you want to do instead is restart the Mac into Recovery mode, but holding down the Command and R keys on boot. Once inside select the Restore from Time Machine option and that will do a complete wipe of your system and restore all the data from the backup. If you're planning on restoring from a NAS drive make sure you have the cable plugged in or WIFI turned on so it can be detected. I sometimes run into errors where the NAS drive reports the Time Machine folder is being used by another computer, to get around this I just give it a restart to help it release any old cached handles. Restoring from a Time Machine backup can take a while. For me and my 1TB of data it ranges from 4 hours to over a day and a half, depending on if I'm restoring from a USB-C SSD drive or a network drive. PROBLEMS Sometimes macOS won't let you fully restore from an old Time Machine backup from another computer. In this case you'll need to manually open up the Time Machine backup archive and restore the files the traditional macOS setup misses yourself. If you're interested in an advanced guide for this operational, just let me know. Parallels Desktop 14 Review | Performance, Windows Gaming & MacOS Mojave

06:51
Virtual machines allow you to simulate other computers, so you can run Windows, Linux, or MacOS on top of your Mac. WHERE TO BUY Parallels Desktop: http://vtudio.com/a/?parallels SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support ADVANTAGES This on paper allows you to run Windows apps, games and try out the latest MacOS betas like Mojave without it affecting your current computer. DISADVANTAGES The disadvantages of doing this is that not all apps and games run at their full speed, but the advantages are that you can quickly jump in and out of say Windows apps and games without going through the hassle of installing Windows via bootcamp and having to restart your machine everytime you want to do something on the other OS. REVIEW In this review we're going to be walking you through the improvements made to Parallels Desktop in version 14 to let you know if it's a worthwhile buy if you've already got an older version and to also show you some of the things you can do if you're new to the whole world of virtual machines. SETUP As always setup is pretty simple, just download the installer from their website, double click, type in your admin password and you'll be up and running in no time. If you have any existing virtual machines, I always recommend installing the latest versions of Parallels Tools. Personally I was didn't experience any improvements to the size of my VM, but I perhaps I had an already optimized system going in and your milage may vary, and for all you Parallels Desktop 12 users out there like me, I actually managed to get Parallels Desktop 12 running fine on the Mojave Beta, though you won't be able to create a Mojave Beta virtual machine with it, for that you'll need the newer version. USER INTERFACE While there is a new control centre, I personally didn't find any changes to the menu system since v13 other than the new Share smart card readers option in USB & Bluetooth. PERFORMANCE Launching v14 was 3 times faster. (8:20 to 2:19) Launching a Windows 10 virtual machine was 30% faster. Launching a 3D model in 3D studio max was 2 seconds slower. Using 3D Studio max felt the same, but resources Activity Monitor reported v14 using 50 energy points while v13 used 150. Both Geekbench and Cinebench yielded higher scores with Geekbench going from 3300 to 3500 single core and 6100 to 6450 multicore, and Cinebench going from 36.5 fps to 40.35fps. When I ran a destroyer of worlds version of the test with Cinebench running on the Windows VM and natively on MacOS, I found that the Cinebench scores actually went down. However, note that I am running the launch version of Parallels Desktop 14, so I can imagine that there will be perhaps there's a bit more fine tuning to be done in future updates. GAMING Unfortunately no improvements have been made in DirectX support, so you won't be able to run any of the latest DirectX 12 games, but that doesn't mean that games won't run any faster. As you can see here the frame rate improvements tested earlier in Cinebench followed on in Sonic All Star Racing. Something also to bear in mind is that support for bluetooth controllers still didn't quite work, hopefully this will be fixed in future, but for now you can always plug them in via USB. MACOS One cool feature I wanted to finish up with is support for running MacOS as a Virtual Machine. Setting up is simple you just either select the installer you grabbed from the beta website or via the App Store, or even actually use the one found on your hard drives recovery partition. It's simple and really cool watch. Once it's setup there you go, you've got MacOS running, within MacOS. This is really useful if say you want to try out a new mac app you're not 100% on, you can quickly test it out on your VM knowing that if it's bad it won't damage your real MacOS. Or just as an excuse to try out the new MacOS beta. One thing to note is that why the OS itself runs pretty smooth you can see pretty high scores on geekbench, one thing I couldn't do is access the GPU which caused apps like Cinebench to just hang. CONCLUSION Alright, and that is it, overall, yes it's a little faster, it won't get you any new games running, but if you want the best support for Mojave or are new to the world of virtual machines then it's definitely worth getting. INSTALLATION Installation takes around 1 minute, you just download the dmg file from the website, install it, shutdown the previous version of Parallels if you have it running and that's it. TESTS Now, we'll be delving into the performance tests with it's predecessor Parallels 12. The test unit I'm using is a 2016 MacBook Pro with TouchBar, to keep the test as fair as possible I started the tests with a fresh restart of the Mac, and ensured after the upgrade, all the Virtual Machines we're fully updated before testing. Opening Parallels - Parallels 12 was slightly faster Starting up Windows - Parallels 13 was slightly faster Starting up Ubuntu - Parallels 13 was slightly faster Shutting down Windows - Parallels 12 was slightly faster Pausing VM - Parallels 13 was slightly faster Resuming VM - Parallels 12 was slightly faster Opening Chrome - Parallels 12 was slightly faster Opening Word - Parallels 12 was slightly faster Opening 3DS Max - Parallels 12 was slightly faster EFFICIENCY Performance between the two were neck and neck, however I thought I'd dig deeper to see if any under the hood improvements were made. As you can see when playing a YouTube video, Parallels 13 used slightly less CPU usage and was more energy efficient. When playing in 3DS Max, the CPU usage were neck and neck, but I was getting a 5% better energy read out in Parallels 13. There ya go, you heard this here first. GAMING Unfortunately, I couldn't get my Xbox Wireless controller working in any games through the VM. And, a few of the newer games refused to launch. I did manage to get some games up and running, and surprisingly, they actually were playable. This is Assassin's Creed liberation running well. Batman Arkham City. Fifa 2013. All within a VM, the audacity. BEST NEW FEATURES - Resizing Windows is now smooth - Higher quality window scaling - Touchbar support - Resource Usage slider - best feature OVERALL There's a few more tests I would of loved to share with you, things like how you can run your own Boot Camp installation as a VM. You can run Linux as a VM which is ace for developers. Overall, if you're on Parallels 12, it's probably not worth upgrading yet, however the stand out feature for me is the new resource usage slider. I was able to edit this video with Windows running in the background on low resource usage with no problems. Things to improve would be Windows gaming support, out of the games I managed to get running, I was very happy with the performance, so hopefully with future updates Parallels can get more games supported. How to Install Windows 10 without Boot Camp on Older Mac Pro via USB

07:00
This way does require you have a Mac compatible graphics card, so if you don't please see the Boot Camp via DVD guide which allows you to install Windows 10 to a non-Mac flashed card like a RX 580. COMPANION VIDEOS Via Boot Camp USB: https://youtu.be/C52rH7LjdjQ Via Boot Camp DVD: https://youtu.be/tdlqNejxkO4 WHERE TO BUY Windows 10: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=windows+10 SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support WARNING Installing Windows is generally safe, but you can accidentally select the wrong disk to format and end up wiping macOS, so be very careful to select the BOOTCAMP partition. Proceed at your own risk. BOOT CAMP DRIVERS The drivers used in this video were downloaded via the Boot Camp Assistant app, but can be also be found here: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1720?locale=en_GB If you have problems with these drivers, it's worth checking the thread posted on Mac Pro Users by Jose Francisco Medeiros for more driver options: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VintageMacPro/permalink/1532004303612275/ GUIDE First up, we need the Boot Camp drivers for this install, so launch the Boot Camp Assistant app and download the drivers onto a USB drive. Instead of using Boot Camp Assistant to prepare the install, we'll partition our drive ourselves by launching Disk Utility. As you can see we've named the partition BOOTCAMP and used the FAT format. Now, if you don't already have a copy of Windows, just jump on google and get a copy of the latest iso from the Microsoft website. Also download a copy of unetbootin (https://unetbootin.github.io/), which will allow us to create a boot USB drive from the Windows iso. Launch unetbootin by holding down control and selecting open. Select the Windows iso we just downloaded, and the target USB drive. You can confirm the USB drive using the Disk Utility app. Once created you can go ahead and try to reset your computer. Hold down the Alt key as the system boots until you hear the chimes to load up the Boot selector screen. If you don't have a Mac compatible graphics card plugged in, now is the time to plug it in, as the Boot selector screen will not load without one. Ok, so hold down the Alt key until you hear the chimes, then wait until the Boot selector screen - this may take about 90 seconds. Once loaded, you can insert the Windows 10 USB Boot Camp Assistant made and select it. The Windows 10 installer will now load up, this takes around 30 seconds. Once unplugged I was able to continue. After the install, Windows will restart your computer, in my case it rebooted back into Windows and continued the install, however in some cases, you might be rebooted back into macOS. If this happens to you, just hold down the alt key again on boot, wait for the boot manager to load up and select your Bootcamp partition to continue. Alright, that's pretty much it, finish up the installer, go ahead and install the Boot Camp drivers and reboot your machine. You might notice that your screen is a little stretched at first, but after Windows update has finished updating the drivers for your graphics card, all should be good in the world. You can also at this stage of course, turn off your system and plug back in your original non-Mac compatible graphics card. One thing to note is that some users have experienced issues when swapping the PCI slots of the graphics cards, so it's worth making sure you plug your go to graphics card in the slot you plan on using it long term. Make Android TV run Faster! | Sony Setup Guide, Best Settings and Developer Mode

07:58
Follow this guide to speed up your TV, unlock Developer Mode, stop spammy pre-loaded apps, fix Chromecast and more! COMPANION VIDEOS Sony TV Review: https://youtu.be/epIHBJdC5Fg LG TV Review: https://youtu.be/8PeYczTniOI WHERE TO BUY Sony Android TV: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=sony+android+tv SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support Demonstration TV Model: Sony X8500D ANDROID TV SETUP Alright first choose your Wifi, you will have to use the remote control keyboard. Then jump on your laptop and type in the pin to connect your Google account. Set your location, then your local, agree to the privacy policy. Then enable/disable automatic software updates, I personally like to check mine manually the reduce the number of background services running as Android TV can be quite slow. Now setup your channels. Then setup how your TV is positioned to help the TV tweak its sound settings for best hearing. Remote start is one of the best features on a Sony TV as it allows you to start the TV directly when streaming to Chromecast so I keep mine on. That's it your TV is ready to rock. BASIC SETTINGS You'll find a lot of advertisement for paid content by default, but we'll get into disabling this soon. If you scroll down to settings you can go ahead and re-run the initial setup, or the channel setup. In Storage & reset you can see how much space you have left and more importantly reset back to factory settings. SOFTWARE UPDATE Or manually search for software updates. If it's your first run, an update probably will be available. Software updates say they can be downloaded in the background, but in my experience if you do try to go in the background the download may sometimes crash as Android TV tends to not have much system memory available, so to ensure it works, just keep the download page in the foreground. Once the update is downloaded you can update it now or later, updates tend to take around 20 minutes to complete. BEST SETTINGS Also in the About section you can rename your TV - this will affect things like how it's named in Chromecast, and opting out of Ads personalisation - which can also improve performance as less information is stored on your System. In Google Cast, I disable Share usage for a negligible but compoundable performance boost. I also make sure in Date & Time I use network time as this also helps alleviate Chromecast connection issues. In usage and diagnostics I make sure sharing is disabled too. In location, while it's un-necessary as I won't be taking the TV out and about, I do keep it on to help apps automatically setup quicker, but this can be disabled for more gains. In Speech I disable block offensive words to help with voice recognition... APP SETTINGS Going into Performance the Apps section is one to check into As you can see it lists the running apps, and there are plenty. So it's always best to uninstall ones you don't use. For me this included YuppTV Note even though the app is removed it'll still appear in Sony's Featured list. If there's an app you can't install you can always disable notifications, for example disabling notifications on Sony Shelf gets rid of the Sony Featured Apps spam list in the home screen... win! OTHER SETTINGS There's lots of settings to play with in the menus, the top ones I tweak is reduce Motionflow, and turn off ClearAudio, which I find makes the picture and audio sound better especially with lower quality sources, your preferences may vary. DEVELOPER MODE You can also unlock more settings to boost performance by enabling developer mode. To do this go to settings, about, scroll down to build and press ok eight times until you're notified that you're a developer. In the system preferences row at the end you'll now have developer options. Inside you'll find a lot of cool toggles. I like to speed up animations to give make the TV feel faster too. You'll find this option in Drawing. The best one to change is in the Apps menu, where inside you can specify if you like your TV to keep activities running in the background. As Android TV is quite slow I tend to disable this and reduce the background process limit to 1. Which does actually speed up the TV, especially if you run unoptimised apps like Plex, Kodi or pretty much most apps on the Play store. Alright that's it, let me know if you found this guide useful, or have any tips to share on this subject. Xcode - Went from 95+ degrees and max fans to 75 degrees. Final Cut Pro - A video that usually takes 38 seconds to export took 1:05 to export while I was encoding h265 with ffmpeg on 11 threads. Note, on the 2017 i7 2.9Ghz MacBook Pro, the same project exported in 1 minute. Aida 64 Extreme Stability Test - Went from thermal throttling to a solid 2.9Ghz after disabling turbo. Doom 4 - While playing at a decent resolution, Task manager was reporting 4.3Ghz, which is the correct maximum boost speed for the i9 processor when it has 6 cores running (it only boosts to 4.8Ghz for one core). SanDisk Extreme SDXC vs Ultra microSDXC | Best Value SD Card for 4K?

04:48
In this video we compare the SanDisk Extreme (non-Pro) SDXC with a much cheaper alternative in the SanDisk Ultra to show you the main differences in performance. WHERE TO BUY SanDisk Extreme: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=sandisk+extreme+256gb PATREONS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. https://patreon.com/vtudio/community I'd been using the SanDisk Ultra for a good few months and occasionally when recording 4K footage on my Panasonic G85, the video recording would stop with a warning screen. While you can restart the recording after a 10 second wait, it does make recording with the camera unreliable. To solve this, I switched over to the SanDisk Extreme SDXC, I did initially consider the SanDisk Extreme Pro, however for my use case of recording 100Mb/s 4K, I hoped that the SanDisk Extreme would be fast enough. In the testing, I found that both card's read speeds were very similar, however the write speeds was where there was a big difference. The SanDisk Ultra's write speeds ranged from 8-40MB/s, which was too unreliable for constant 4K recording. While the SanDisk Extreme's write speed was always above 60MB/s. Transfer Files Mac to Mac | Time Machine Backup vs Migration Assistant vs Target Disk Mode

07:01
You just got a new Mac? But what's the best method of transferring your files? WHERE TO BUY MacBook: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=macbook iMac Pro: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=imac+pro COMPANION VIDEO Time Machine Restore: https://youtu.be/R5EKVaY5QgY SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support MIGRATION ASSISTANT Just launch the app and it'll log out your system and prepare for transfer mode. On your new mac, select transfer your information from a Mac, Time Machine backup or start up disk, and as long as you're on the same Wifi network your old mac will be detected and you can begin transferring. For me, I was given to option to connect via thunderbolt, however it didn't make a difference and it continued to transfer via wifi, which at 43 MB/s is pretty fast. TARGET DISK MODE You can use target this mode. Just go into System Preferences - Startup Disk and select Target Disk Mode. This will restart your mac with a floating connection icon on the screen. Once you plug the thunderbolt 3 cable between your old and new Mac, you'll be able to access the hard drive of your old mac directly. While this method should be faster, in my experience, it was very very slow! TIME MACHINE BACKUP In case you're not aware, Mac's have a very very very useful app called Time Machine backup, which allows you to backup your system to an external drive or a network drive in the background. Just open up time machine, select a disk, and if you tick backup automatically it'll constantly backup the changes every hour or so. Although I've never noticed any degradation in performance, you can always keep it unticked and backup manually for extra control. Something you should always do is open options and add in any folders which you don't need backed up, for example I make sure not to backup my Steam games and my huge Final Cut Pro cache folder. Once fully backed up you'll be able to restore using that same option. Restoring a huge backup via my Synology NAS drive is always a pain, sometimes the computer would just endlessly stay in the loading backup page. However, after a reset of my computer and NAS it usually shakes it off. Over Wifi transfer speeds can be very slow too, but if you connect your computer directly to the NAS drive using a RJ45 cable it'll double in speed. The fastest way I found restoring from backup, is to actually backup your computer to an external SSD drive, then restore from there. However, overall I'd just stick with the built in Migration Assistant over Wifi tool as the transfer speeds were actually very fast, especially considering that it was being done over Wifi. How to Mine Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin on Mac/Windows, using CPU or GPU with MinerGate and NiceHash

07:59
This video is all about making money out of thin air. I'll be setting up mining apps on Mac, Windows, with a MacBook, a desktop, and using a graphics card, showing you how much you can earn and some of the ways of going about doing it. COMPANION VIDEO All About Mining: https://youtu.be/9Da8QYMa2VU TOOLS USED MinerGate: http://bit.ly/2sbGd8e NiceHash: http://bit.ly/2sbGd8e Jaxx: http://bit.ly/2BG6CyO HwMonitor: http://bit.ly/2nHfuLW Filming: http://bit.ly/vtudiotools MAC Ok first up, mining on your Mac. On Mac I tried out a few apps including MacMiner, Zcash miner, Parity, MinerGate and ByteCoin wallet. Unfortunately I couldn't get any of them working with my GPU, for GPU mining which as you'll discover is far more profitable, you'll need to switch over to Windows which I'll cover in the next section. MINERGATE The easiest mining app to use out of the lot was MinerGate, it already has pools you can easily join, lots of different coins you can mine and integrated wallets to collect the coins in. To install simply head over to the website which you can find the link in the description below, download the version for the operating system you're currently using. For this I picked Mac. Once downloaded open up the dmg file and copy over the MinerGate app to your Applications folder. By default it'll automatically pick the most profitable coin, which for me was Monero. You can also go ahead and benchmark your computer to see how good it is in the Benchmark tab, this is how my Mac Pro with an RX580 did, let me know how yours goes. MINERGATE PERFORMANCE For Bytecoin its around 360,000 hashes per coin and as of today it's around 0.005 USD per coin. On my MacBook Pro using it's i7 from 2006, with Bytecoin it gets around 80 hashs a second which means around 1 coin per 90 minutes, with only a 10watt increase while it's mining over just being on. On my Mac Pro using a 6 core Xeon CPU from 2012, with Bytecoin it gets 150 hashes which means 1.5 coins per hour, however it eats up an extra 100watts over the computer just being idle. Using a RX580 graphics card which we'll go over in the Windows section, using the default BIOS on you get 600 hashes a second which is about 6 coins per hour with a 60watt increase. You can also install a custom mining BIOS on the graphics card and yield up to 30% more performance however it will effect the graphics card's performance negatively in other areas such as gaming. So if you are thinking of Mining on Mac, without a GPU the MacBook Pro will get you 20 Bytecoins a day, which is today worth only 10 cents, but with minimal electricity usage. With a GPU like the RX580 you can get you around 150 coins a day which is closer to a dollar. But, of course hopefully by the time you watch this video in the future these coins may be worth a lot more - fingers crossed. JAXX WALLET As you collect coins they go into the wallet provided by MinerGate, you can convert them over to currency, however a small fee will be charged if you do this. You can also transfer them over to your own personal wallet which will live on your computer, to do this you can use a free app called Jaxx. WINDOWS On Windows you can use MinerGate but now with the GPU unlocked if you have one. As you can see using the GPU gives you a massive performance jump over a CPU alone. With the RX580 graphics card giving a 4x bump in hashing speed using the same wattage. Note I'm using a free app called HWMonitor to monitor the power usage. GAMING Speaking of gaming, one of the coolest things I found with MinerGate was that I could actually play games while mining. NICEHASH On Windows you can also install an app called NiceHash. Now NiceHash isn't as user friendly as MinerGate but the rates are higher. Also it was recently hacked so bare that in mind when using that service. To install NiceHash you need to select which graphics card you're using. For me, I have an AMD graphics card so I installed the AMD version - which also works with a CPU. Free money... NICEHASH PERFORMANCE Using an RX580 at 100W increase in power I was getting up to $3 a day, the Mac Pro's 6 core Xeon using 100W increase in power was getting me almost $1 a day, while the MacBook Pro's i7 would get me almost 20 cents a day with a 10W bump in power, making the RX580 the most efficient in mining. Unlike MinerGate however NiceHash hits system resources a lot harder and I was unable to play games in the background. Officially Intel state the i9 goes 4.6 at 2 cores down and only turbos to 4.8 if it's operating at under 50 degrees. In our tests mining we find the i9 to stably hit that 4.6 figure at 2 cores. Around 4.0GHz at 4 cores, and around 2.9-3GHz at 6 cores. No tweaks were used to maintain the power limit as this was primarily a CPU task, although I did have my external monitor plugged in and a few background apps running. How to Fix Samsung Galaxy S9/S8/S7 Oversaturated Videos on Mac [REC2020]

04:07
In this video we find out why S9 videos look very red on Macs, and show you how to fix it by installing ffmpeg and running a few commands. Step 1 | Install Homebrew https://brew.sh/ Step 2 | Install ffmpeg brew install ffmpeg --with-fdk-aac --with-ffplay --with-freetype --with-libass --with-libquvi --with-libvorbis --with-libvpx --with-opus --with-x265 --with-libvidstab Step 3 | Run convert command ffmpeg -i "SOURCE_VIDEO.mp4" "FIXED_VIDEO.mp4" *UPDATE: Samsung released a new firmware update which now requires you to re-encode the entire video rather than simply update the headers, so the process will be a lot slower than using the previous -c copy method shown in this video. 336X Superzoom 😏 Panasonic Lumix FZ80/FZ82 Hands-On Review

13:16
SUPERZOOOOOM'ing the skies, the moon, the birds, the beach, with a possible 336X magnification, join us as we take this camera on tour. WHERE TO BUY Panasonic FZ80: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=panasonic+fz80 Nikon P1000: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=nikon+p1000 DJI Mavic: http://vtudio.com/a/?a=dji+mavic COMPANION VIDEOS Panasonic G85: https://youtu.be/TpiImnTZltY Which Drone: https://youtu.be/bOvaAw5StPA Which Binoculars: https://youtu.be/UvS-ld6jqsU iPhone XS Camera: https://youtu.be/G-oUNcFk5zk Galaxy S8 Camera: https://youtu.be/Bi5B6EbipKE REVIEW I'll get straight to the point, this is the best value superzoom camera you can get. It shoots 4K with a 15 minute recording limit. You can get up to 336X magnification with digital zoom enabled, however the optical and best quality limit is 60X. The autofocus is not reliable, especially at night, if it had a focus ring to adjust the focus that would of been amazing but you can live on manual focus and toggle autofocus on demand with a button press. Night quality is about as dark as an iPhone however when you zoom into bright areas you can see the brightness in that area so it's actually pretty usable. You can get shots of the moon which is amazing! Although the quality can get grainy when digital zoom is used, but it's still good. The LCD screen is usable but ideally you need a bigger screen to better see what's going on, there is HDMI output but it doesn't output a live feed just plays back recorded media. It charges and transfers files via USB which is useful as the tripod mount screw hole is next to the battery door so to get to the battery/SD card area requires more work than it should. That being said battery life is decent, continual recording will last around an hour, but for me I've don't use this camera to shoot continuous so I've so far never had any problems recording events. After occasional (probably 10-20 times) use over 6 months the camera just refused to start, we've been quoted a 2-4 week repair timeframe under warranty. Hopefully this isn't a widespread issue. You can vlog with it, 20mm is a little tight and with no mic input the audio quality is very mediocre, but it is a bit of fun. The zoom is very slow, a manual zoom ring would of been great, but for the price, I can't complain too much. It's very light at 600grams, compared to the newer 1.5kg Nikon P1000. Overall, yes for the price, value, weight, usage, I'd recommend this camera. How to Fix Gimbal and Autofocus? | The DJI Mavic Care Warranty

My DJI Mavic Pro Platinum recently developed problems with its autofocus and gimbal. But, in the end none of them worked and I figured I'd send it off to DJI and let you know how fast and how much DJI would charge me for a repair. Overall, the whole process took 10 days from initial filing, I took an extra 2 days send the drone in so it was really 8 days from posting to received the fixed item. They sent me the pre-paid postage but I packaged it myself using bubble wrap and a padded envelope. I just sent in the faulty item and not the whole package. 8 days later they sent me back a drone with a new serial number, and the repair was fixed free of charge under warranty. Weifeng WF-3958M Monopod | Much Better Value than a Manfrotto

02:28
I picked the Weifeng WF-3958M monopod from eBay for only AU$40, and I can't recommend this enough. WHERE TO BUY Weifeng WF-3958M Monopod: http://vtudio.com/a/?e=weifeng+monopod You get a solid monopod with a great smooth video head including a quick release plate. It's a very solid build and holds my Panasonic G85 well. While it can extend for up to 1.5m, like most monopods its much harder to balance - it is possible - on flat surfaces, but I wouldn't recommend it. It weighs around 1kg, but most of that is from the video head which I personally swap out for the much lighter Joby SLR-Zoom head. Although, doing this means you'd loose the smoothness of the provided video head. Best Wide Angle Lens Adapter | 0.7x is Great for Vlogging on Panasonic G85 GH5

06:56
Been looking into wide angle lenses for our Panasonic G85 and they all seem to be iffy. They're either very expensive ($1000) and missing crucial features such as image stabilization (Panasonic 8-18mm), weather sealing (Panasonic 7-14mm), or less expensive ($400), but require manual focus. To fix this we picked up the NiSi 0.7x Wide Angle Lens Adapter for 58mm thread lenses for our Panasonic G85 12-60mm kit lens and very impressed by the quality. WHERE TO BUY NiSi 0.7x Wide Angle Adapter: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/xwYiJ04 (Make sure you select the appropriate caliber for your lens, eg. for the G85 kit lens, I used the 58mm) SPECIAL THANKS Thanks for your support and if you have any suggestions or would like to help us produce more videos, please visit: https://vtudio.com/a/?support The adapter is a big chunky piece of glass which weighs around 300g, and has a very solid feel to it. Comment from Hank Lai 14-140mm ii, 15mm/f1.7 & 25mm/f1.7, the AF only works on 14mm focal of 14-140mm ii and 15mm/f1.7. It looks AF problem as focal greater than 15mm for the above lenses.
