Hardware Myths: Oven Baked Graphics Card Repair
After having trouble with my 8800 GTS Graphics Card I decided to give one of the most common "fix" guides I've read about a go. As much as this isn't an ideal or long term solution, days of troubleshooting have got me pretty frustrated, so anything was worth a try to save one of my all time favourite GPU's. Can This Old $1200 "Future Proof" PC Still Play Games?
After discovering an old article regarding a $1200 "future proof" PC build I thought it would be interesting to see just how well it would perform now, 5 years in the future. For just less than $350 or about £283 these days, can a build like this live up to it's original intention and handle a few modern titles, despite costing almost four times less to build in 2017 than in 2012? Let's find out! Our PC build consists of an i5 2500k, GTX 570 and 4GB of Ram and will be put through it's paces with games like The Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, Grand Theft Auto V and Fallout 4. This $850 CPU Now Costs As Little As $10 | Can This Classic Core 2 Quad Still Play Games?
With online auction sites often filled with absolute bargains, it's relatively easy to source a whole budget gaming PC for a very reasonable price, even if that means going with slightly older hardware. When the Q6600 was first released it cost a whopping $850 but was reduced to $530 just months later. The Q6600 quickly became the CPU of choice for many gamers, and it's no surprise that many people still use this today thanks to it's pretty decent overclocking ability. But just how capable is it when it comes to a few of the more demanding games out there? In this one we paired it with the AMD Radeon RX 460 to find out! What Happened To Triple Core Processors?
At the end of last decade and continuing early into this one, it seems as though there were plenty of three core CPU's to choose from. Whilst they are quite unconventional it seems as though they would still be a good choice when it comes to building a budget gaming PC, given that they were cheaper than quad cores yet more powerful than dual cores. And, as software these days is able to better utilize multiple cores it seems as though they would offer a slight edge not just in gaming, but when it comes to CPU intensive tasks like rendering videos too.
