How To Replace Ugly Old Light Switch With a Brand New One Tutorial

06:10
HOW TO REPLACE A LIGHT SWITCH http://www.onemorerental.com/ If a light switch fails to function, it should be replaced. Most modern switcheshave screw terminals on each side and may also have holes in the back to accept the end of the wire. Although plug-in connections may be more convenient, they are less reliable than those with screw terminals, so don’t use them! You can easily loosen the screws on the side of the device with a standard screwdriver (turning counterclockwise), but you may find getting the wires out of the back of the device tricky. To remove these wires, insert the blade of a small screwdriver into the slot under the hole into which the wire is inserted and push in as you pull the wire loose. Pushing the blade of the screwdriver into the slot releases the grip on the inserted wire. Here are descriptions of the wires and where they go: The white (neutral) wire connects to the silver screw, or you place it in the back wire hole on the same side of the device as the silver screw. The black (hot) wire goes to the brass screw or into the hole in the back of the device on the same side as the brass screw. This wire is sometimes red. The green or bare copper (ground) wire, if the device has one, attaches to the green screw terminal on the switch or to the electrical box. If the switch has On and Off embossed on its body and it’s the only switch that controls lights or receptacles, it’s a single-pole switch. To replace this kind of switch, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the power to the switch at the main circuit breaker or fuse panel. 2. Unscrew and remove the switch plate; then use a voltage tester to make sure that the circuit is dead. 3. Unscrew the switch from the electrical box and pull it out with the wires still attached. Two or three wires will be attached to the switch: an incoming hot wire, which is black; a return wire, which carries the load to the fixture and may be black, red, or any other color except green; and sometimes a grounding wire, which is green or bare copper. There may be other wires in the box, but you are only dealing with the ones connected directly to the switch. You may find a white wire that has black tape on it connected to the switch. This tape indicates that the white wire is being used as a black or colored wire in the switch leg, so it’s not neutral. 4. Compare your new switch with the one you’re replacing to find the corresponding locations for the electrical screw connectors. Because the power is off, you can match up the connectors the easy way: Instead of disconnecting all the wires at once and possibly getting confused, unscrew and connect one wire at a time. 5. Attach the first wire you unscrew to the same-colored screw on the new switch as it was on the old; do the same with the second. To connect a wire to a terminal, strip off about 1/2 inch of insulation, using a wire stripper, and twist the end into a clockwise loop with long-nose pliers. The loop must wrap at least two-thirds but no more than three-quarters of the way around the terminal screw. Hook the wire clockwise around the screw so when you tighten the screw with a screwdriver, the clockwise force of the tightening screw makes the loop wrap tighter around the screw. 6. Gently push the new, wired switch back into the electrical box and screw it in place. 7. Screw on the switch plate and turn on the power. How To Pick The Perfect Spot For A Garden In Your Backyard - 3 Tips

Big Boy Tomato Seeds - http://amzn.to/2GluhEo Full-Size Seed Propagator Black Tray - http://amzn.to/2FJhVI8 Follow Us On Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Gardening-Is-Life-223340001558438/ 1. Pick a spot with the best soil. It doesn’t have to be perfectly black beautiful dirt, it just should be workable. You cal always add in minerals and such later. For example our soil is ok, but we will be adding more manure this year and we will be adding sand to make it porous. Obviously try to avoid an area with alot of rocks. 2. Pick a spot in the sun or in partial sun/shade. Not a shady spot. 3. Think about your water source. You need to be able to haul water easily to the garden or at least be in hose distance to your hydrant. 4. What about wind? Out here on the prairie it’s difficult to avoid the wind so I do other things to prevent my plants from dying from wind exposure. However if you have a natural windbreak in your land or if you are planning on building a solid fence those would be ideal. 5. Pick a spot away from the natural disaster elements. In my example above we moved our garden to avoid flooding last year. There is an old creek bed that runs through our land that I didn’t see until we looked at Google maps. It was something that needed to be avoided.

How To Grow A Papaya Tree At Home From Seed - Gardening Is Life

06:26
Follow Us On Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Gardening-Is-Life-223340001558438/ Full-Size Seed Propagator Black Tray - http://amzn.to/2FJhVI8 Get You Hovey Papaya Miniature Tree 2 Pack Here - https://amzn.to/2EAEdHt How To Grow A Papaya Tree At Home From Seed - Gardening Is Life How to Grow Papaya in Pots Growing papaya in pots is not difficult, considering it is short living small tree. You can grow any papaya variety in pots but it is better to choose a dwarf variety. Choosing a container Choose a large 15-20 gallon size container for growing papaya in pots, also, ensure there are enough drainage holes in the bottom before planting. A pot that is around 18-22 inches in diameter and 12-15 inches deep would be sufficient. Sow the seeds directly in the pot you wish to use for growing papaya tree as papayas don’t transplant well. All the other growing requirements are given below in the article. How to Grow Papaya Tree in Cold Climate Papaya is a tropical fruit tree but if you are thinking to plant it in a temperate climate plant it in a large pot and try to overwinter it in a well-protected area, like a greenhouse. Another way is to start the seeds in fall, or in early spring indoors. Once the temperature soars up to plant the seedlings outside. The tree will grow until the frost comes and get killed but there is a possibility that you’ll get some juicy papayas. Requirements for Growing Papaya Tree Temperature It is also an important factor that determines if the plant will grow or not. Papaya is one of the easiest fruit trees you can grow the optimum temperature for growing papaya ranges between 68 – 86 F (20 to 30 C). Low temperatures lead to a slow growth of the plant and higher temperatures cause low production. However, papaya tree can bear cold temperature down to 32 F (0 C) for a short period of time. In extremely high tropical temperatures and in heat waves and droughts, flower buds fall and the plant suspends its growth. Location The papaya needs plenty of sun due to its high photosynthetic activity. It is impossible to grow it in the lack of sunlight. One more thing you need to keep in mind when choosing a location for growing papaya trees that they are not strongest and must not be planted in a too windy spot. Spacing Excess water causes yellowing of young leaves, premature fall of flowers and contribute to root rot. Low moisture in the soil can lead to slow growth, accelerated aging and premature leaf and fruit drop. Good soil preparation practices are key to growing papaya, such as deep plowing and mixing organic matter. Watering Water is the main contributor of the plant (the plant is composed about 85% of water). In the process of germination, and first few months after planting, papaya needs a lot of water, so at this stage water regularly. In the dry season, to get the good results in production, watering must be increased again. Keep the soil slightly moist but not wet. As a rule of thumb, water papaya plant deeply when top 1 inch of soil dries out. Papaya Tree Care Papaya tree care is easy if you grow it in the warm conditions in full sun. Mulching Mulching papaya tree with organic matter helps in retaining moisture, which is essential. Fertilizer Papayas are heavy feeders. Apply plenty of manure or compost regularly near the base of your plant. You can also apply complete fertilizer 15-15-15, 0.1 kg or a similar mixture at intervals of two weeks during the first six months and 0.2 kg thereafter. Pruning No pruning is required. Pests and Diseases Pests that can attack it are fruit flies, mites, black vine weevil, aphids, leafhoppers, and whitefly. In diseases, it suffers from soil fungi, powdery mildew, fruit rot, papaya ringspot virus, and nematodes. Harvesting Papayas Papaya fruit set occurs 10-12 months after planting. The fruit is sensitive to sunburn and it must be separated from the tree carefully using plastic gloves or something similar, pick it lightly with a twist or use a short knife, leaving 0.5 cm stalk. Harvesting should be done according to the following maturity indices: 1. 0% Ripe: Completely green, but well developed. 2. 10-15% Ripe: Color change, one or two yellow stripes with 10-15% yellow surface shell surrounded by a bright green color. 3. 25% Ripe: 25% of the surface of the shell is yellow surrounded by the clear green color. 4. 75% Ripe: 75% of the surface is yellow. 5. 76-100% Ripe: The surface of the shell have yellow to orange color. Papaya is a fruit that after being cut continues its maturation without stopping. Papayas that are harvested for selling in the market are harvested green with two or three yellow stripes as fruits that reach 75 to 100% maturity are difficult to transport. Fruits must be harvested in the early hours of the day and must not be exposed to the sun.

How To Grow An Avocado Tree From Seed At Home - Indoors Pot

07:05
22" Sonora Resin Planter Large Pot - https://amzn.to/2NeZkUI Full-Size Seed Propagator Black Tray - http://amzn.to/2FJhVI8 Follow Us On Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Gardening-Is-Life-223340001558438/ How To Grow An Avacado Tree From Seed At Home - Indoors Pot Planting: Houseplant* You can start with an avocado seed. Wash it. Use three toothpicks to suspend it broad end down over a water-filled glass to cover about an inch of the seed. Put the glass in a warm place out of direct sunlight and replenish water as needed. You should see the roots and stem start to sprout in about two to six weeks. (If you’ve followed this process so far and have not seen roots or a stem sprout in more than six to eight weeks, try another seed.) When the stem is 6 to 7 inches long, cut it back to about 3 inches. When the roots are thick and the stem has leaves again, plant it in a rich humus soil in a 10½-inch-diameter pot, leaving the seed half exposed. Water it frequently, with an occasional deep soak. The soil should be moist but not saturated. And don’t forget: the more sunlight, the better. If the plant turns yellow, you may be over-watering; let it dry out for a few days. If the leaves turn brown and fry at the tips, too much salt has accumulated in the soil. Let water run freely into the pot, and drain it for several minutes. When the stem is 12 inches high, cut it back to 6 inches to encourage the growth of new shoots. *Please note that the odds that your tree will bear fruit are very small. Planting: Young tree Remember that avocado trees do best at moderately warm temperatures (60 F to 85 F) with moderate humidity. They can tolerate temperatures, once established, of around 28 F to 32 F with minimal damage. Avoid freezing temperatures. Plant your tree in March through June. If you plant during the summer, there is always the risk of sun damage, because avocado trees don’t absorb water very well when they’re young. Plant it in a non-lawn area and away from sidewalks and, if you can, plant it in a spot protected from wind and frost. Remember, full sun is best. Dig a hole as deep as the current root ball and just as wide as the width plus a little extra so you can get your hands into the hole to plant it. The avocado is a shallow-rooted tree with most of its feeder roots in the top 6 inches of soil, so give it good aeration. Its root system is very sensitive, and great care should be taken not to disturb it when transplanting. If the tree is root-bound, however, loosen up the soil around the edges and clip the roots that are going in circles. Soil Avocado trees like the soil’s pH around 6 to 6.5. If you have a heavy clay soil, elevate the tree in a mound for better drainage. Make the mound 1 to 2 feet high and 3 to 5 feet around. Don’t put gravel or anything else like planting media in the hole. The sooner the roots get into the bulk soil, the better the tree will do. Watering Trees typically need to be watered two to three times a week. As the roots reach out into the bulk soil, more water can be applied and the frequency of watering can diminish to about once a week after a year. When watering the tree, soak the soil well, and then allow it to dry out somewhat before watering again. As with most plants, you don’t want the tree to get too dry. The rule of thumb for mature trees is about 20 gallons of water a day during the irrigation season. Seedlings will require quite a bit less water, of course. Check the soil before watering each time to make sure it has dried somewhat. If the soil from around the roots can hold the impression of a hand when squeezed, it has enough water. Mulching and Fertilizing Mulch with coarse yard mulch. Redwood bark or cocoa bean husks and shredded tree bark will work. Choose something that is woody and about 2 inches in diameter. Coarse yard mulch is available at some garden-supply centers and through tree-trimming operations. Tree-trimming operations sometimes have material that has been pruned from the tops of trees and doesn’t contain any diseased roots. Use online search engines to find a local tree service. Put 20 pounds of gypsum spread around the tree base, and mulch the area with 6 inches of mulch, keeping the material about 6 to 8 inches away from the tree trunk. Fertilize your young avocado trees with ½ to 1 pound of actual nitrogen per tree per year. You can spread it out over several applications as long as it totals ½ to 1 pound of nitrogen. The other important nutrient for avocado trees is zinc. Ordinary home fertilizer for houseplants will normally work.
