In this video, I discuss why phrasebooks are a great investment for your English - Free Book ➜ https://www.tofluency.com/5-step-plan/ ▼ Get Notifications of my latest videos ➜ http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=tofluency ▼ //////// TRANSCRIPT //////// Hello. This is Jack from tofluency.com. Now, I got an email the other day from somebody who asked me to make more videos about phrases to use when traveling. Now, I am going to introduce more of these videos soon, but i thought this would be a great time to introduce one of my favorite resources for learning a language. Now, this is a guide to Florence. My wife and I went to Italy about six years ago and I decided to take a quick course on Italian before going there because I wanted to be able to use a few phrases while I was there. now I also got this guide and another phrase book. - I highly recommend phrase books when it comes to learning English both for specific situations when you're traveling but also to help you learn English in general. Now, phrase books are normally very accurate and what's more, they give you the phrases you need to know in specific situations. So, this obviously helps when you're traveling, when you're going to your hotel or ordering coffee and things like that. But it's also going to help you learn grammar and the correct phrases to know in lots of different situations. Now, to get the most out of something like a phrase book, what I recommend you do is to take the phrases and the sentences that are useful for you and learn them. Now, I have a very specific method for this called the sentence method, and you might have heard me talk about this before. And if you have, then i highly recommend checking out the article that I wrote on how to use this method. In summary, what you do is you take sentences that are useful for you, enter them into software, and then go through the sentences on your phone or on your computer in a variety of ways so that you can internalize the words and phrases but also internalize grammar - so, check out the description where there is a link to that article. My question for you is this do you use phrase books to help you learn English and if you do, do you have a recommendation for other learners? If you have a recommendation, then please share it below. Thank you for watching and I'll speak to you soon! ---------- Please share this video if you found it useful. Irregular Verbs in English – Groups 1 & 2

11:55
Learning irregular verbs in English can be a long and difficult process. To help you with it, I will teach you how to break them into categories with recognizable patterns. With my method, irregular verbs do not have to be so unpredictable. I will teach you the base form of the verb, the simple past, and the past participle. For extra help, download and print our list of irregular verbs to study with the video and to practice on your own: http://www.engvid.com/english-resource/common-irregular-verbs-grouped/ Test yourself with our quiz: http://www.engvid.com/irregular-verbs-in-english-groups-1-2/ And watch the next lesson on Group 3 irregular verbs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl36XffSQ1o TRANSCRIPT Hi. My name's Ronnie. I'm going to try and help you do something fantastic for your English grammar, speaking, and general wellbeing. This is a very, very time-consuming and difficult task that you will have to do when you are learning English. They're verbs. We have many verbs in English. We have what are called regular verbs. A regular verb will end in "ed". For example: "use", "used". So, regular verb. We like to call them "ed" verbs just to be fancy. So, regular verbs are easy because they all both end in "ed" if you have different forms. Now, what I'm going to go over today is the difference in forms between simple past and the past participle. So, we have the simple present tense, which is something like: "I eat pizza." When we use simple present, it's something we do every day. Then we have what's called the simple past, or you can say past simple. It doesn't matter; it's the same. So, we have the present tense, we have the past, and we have what's called the past participle. Have you heard of this before? The past participle, it's so difficult for me to say, so I'm going to call it p.p. from now on. So, the past participle, you're going to have to use if you learn present perfect. Now, if you don't know what these are yet, that's okay. If you've heard of these before and you know what they are, that's fantastic. Past perfect and all the forms of passive voice that we have in English. If these are new kind of ideas to you, please don't worry, but it's not past, present "prefect" it's present perfect. We must be perfect. If these are new things for you... I'll get this spelling right, I promise. There we go, present perfect. If these are new concepts to you, don't worry about it. Okay? Just focus on learning these groups, and we have a very, very beautiful list of verbs to help you in the resources section on www.engvid.com. Go there now. You can put it... It's in PDF file, so you can print it out and you can have the list in front of you to memorize, to remember, to help you. What I want you do is I want to introduce you to-doo, doo, doo, doo-group one and two of irregular verbs. Once you do this, there's also a video on group number three, which is the most difficult. So we're starting with the easiest ones, yay. And again, this is groups one and two. You can find them, a list of these on the resources section. So, past participle, I will now call p.p. Yay. We have the present tense, simple past or past, and then the past participle. The first group is the most delicious. It's the best because we don't have to change anything. Woo-hoo. So, if in the present tense the verb is "cut", the past tense is "cut", and so is the past participle or the p.p. So, we have: "cut", "cut", "cut". For example, if we use present tense: "I cut the pizza." If we use past tense, I can say: "Yesterday, I cut the grass." And if I wanted to use the past participle, let's say I want to use present perfect, I can say: "The grass has been cut." So, we don't need to change the verb. These are some examples of verbs that we don't have to change. So, these are the easiest, and probably your favourite. We have: "cost", "hit", "hurt", ow. So if you... Something hits you, you are hurt. "Let", "put", "quit". If the simple past is "shut", what do you think the past participle would be? It's the same, so this would also be "shut". So, I could say: "I shut the door.", "The door was shut.", or: "The door has been shut." And in the last one we have the word "bet". Again, we don't have to change it, so it's: "bet", "bet", "bet". I bet you like this lesson. Yeah? Okay? So these ones are the easiest and the most fun because they don't have to change. Whew. We're going to go into group two. Group two is okay, because we only have to change one time now. So, if we have the present tense, section A, all we're doing to make it past or use the past participle, is we're changing it, and all of these ones are going to have a "d" ending. So, present tense we have "sell", "sold", and "sold". I hear a lot of people doing this: "Sell, sold, sold", so they're saying: "sell", "sold", "sold". If you repeat it in your head, it will help you remember it. We have "tell", "told", "told"; "feed"...

IELTS speaking test - Part 02 - Lexical Resource - (Improve your Band score)

IELTS speaking test - Part 02 - Lexical Resource - (Improve your Band score) IELTS SPEAKING TEST KNOW HOW -http://www.learnex.in/ielts-speaking-test-faqs-score-better-band/ IELTS SPEAKING TEST PART 01 -http://www.learnex.in/ielts-speaking-test-part-01-fluency-coherence/ IELTS SPEAKING TEST PART 02 - http://www.learnex.in/ielts-speaking-test-exam-score-good-band-in-ielts-exam It’s time to learn some new tricks and revise vocabulary for IELTS with me Michelle. In this lesson we are learning how to score better in the Lexical Resource/ Vocabulary criterion which is one of the four criterions for the IELTS Speaking Test. Do you know? Vocabulary is 25 % of your marks for IELTS Speaking Test. It also plays a key role in Writing, Listening and Reading test. So pay attention. 1. Using Vocabulary Flexibly: Meaning: To use the same word in different contexts to discuss a variety of topics. Aim: to understand how we can use the same word differently How: to categorize words: When you read a new word jot down the different contexts that you can use it for. Or you can make a list of words about a particular topic, like sports (kick, play, win, run – using mind maps always helps with this) Example: Let’s look at some ways to use the word “Advice”: -To talk about relationships/ career (in Task -1): My brother’s advice helped me to choose Medicine as a career. -To talk about your favourite newspaper (in Task-2- topic- Describe your favorite newspaper): I love to read XYZ newspaper because of its advice column which is authored by experts. -To talk about “The effects of eating out” (in Task-3 – Analytical Discussion): My advice to my best friend who’s a bit overweight is to follow a balanced diet. (Please remember this example does not mean that you overuse a word but to use the same word in different contexts wherever required.) Quick tip: So here we learn that the same word can be used in different situations or different contexts, to be an expert at using vocabulary flexibly you need to be an active listener of various English news channels and also an active user of the newly learned vocabulary. Practice is the key. 2. Paraphrasing: Meaning: If you can’t find a word (don’t give up) try explaining the word. You’ll get surely brownie points for that. Aim: To explain a word you can’t find How: By describing it Example: In Task 1 while talking about studies: Examiner: what was your first day at college like? You: I can’t explain the feeling. It was a mix of disappointment and also expectation for the future. Because I didn’t speak to anyone in the class but I was expecting that maybe I’ll make some good friends soon. 3. Using synonyms: (use of less common vocabulary and expressions) Meaning: there are some words that are tired words and you need to get rid of them and some energetic words that need to be used. Aim: to try to use energetic words in place of tired words How: Try using a thesaurus or make word card Example: A nice job, a nice lunch, a nice car, a nice woman etc. just sounds unimaginative and perhaps even uneducated if you speak like this. To get a higher score in the exam, you’ll have to learn to express the same idea with different words. Try this: a first-rate job, a sumptuous meal, an outstanding car, a smart women. How does it sound now? You can see the difference yourself. 4. Using Collocations and Understanding Connotation: Meaning: Collocations are words that go together How: Practice them. Watch our videos on collocations for many different words Example: Lion’s Roar – Lions do not shout, alternatively make a phone call- we don’t do a phone call Meaning: Connotation means the negative, positive and neutral association some words have. How: Example: Positive- Laid-back/slim, Inactive – neutral/thin, lazy – negative/skinny These tips will help you sail smoothly through the Lexical Resource Criterion of the IELTS Speaking Test. IELTS – The 5 Step Study Plan

22:48
If you're going to take IELTS, start here! Your success on the IELTS is based on more than just practicing English skills. In this video, I'll show you the key steps you need to take to reach your target band score. I'll talk about setting your objectives, building your studying plan, and studying for each section of the exam. Many students get a low score on the IELTS and keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Save your time and your money by avoiding their mistakes. Watch this video and get it right the first time. Take the quiz to make sure: http://www.engvid.com/ielts-the-5-step-study-plan/ For grammar and writing help, you can also visit my site: http://www.WriteToTop.com For many more free lessons on IELTS preparation you can visit: http://www.engvid.com/english-exams/ielts/ For a free complete guide to the IELTS, go to: http://www.GoodLuckIELTS.com TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome to www.engvid.com. I'm Adam. Today we're going to look at an IELTS study plan, and as usual, when I look at IELTS, or TOEFL, or any of the tests, I'm going to speak a little bit faster so those of you taking the test can get a little bit more listening practice. And everybody else, this is very good practice for you as well to listen to slightly faster English. So we're going to look at IELTS. And for those of you who are just starting to prepare, starting to think about taking this test, maybe you want to go to university, maybe it's for immigration purposes, whatever, you're just starting out, you've just signed up for the test, now you need to start preparing for it. So here's a five-point study plan. And number one is the most important part because... And I'll tell you in a minute why. Know the test. Now, what does this mean? It means that you have to know exactly what you're about to face. I've met many test takers who've taken the test maybe several times, and the first two or three times they got a really low score because they still didn't really know what was coming. Right? They didn't understand how the test is structured, what the timing is like, all of these things. So, know the test, means: Know the structure. There are four sections; listening, reading, writing, speaking. Make sure you know how each of them works, how much time is going to be used for each one. In the listening section you have four sections, in the reading section you have three passages to read, in the writing sections you have... Section you have two tasks that you have to complete. In the speaking section you're going to be speaking with a native English speaker face to face, one on one for about 12 to 15 minutes. Make sure you know exactly what they're going to be asking you, what you're going to be expected to answer back. Okay? So know the structure of the test. Know the timing. You have 40 minutes, roughly, for the listening section, including a 10-minute time allotment for copying your answers from the question sheet to an answer sheet. This is very, very important. Know what to do that. If you're finished writing your answers on your answer sheet before the 10 minutes are up, you can't go to the reading section. You have to sit and wait, close your eyes, relax, etc. Make sure you know the question types that you're going to face in the listening, and the reading, and the writing of course, and the speaking. Knowing the question types will make sure that you aren't surprised by anything. Okay? You do not want to have surprises on test day. Know the question types, prepare for them, begin to think about how to answer them. Okay? Make sure you know all the directions. Every section of the test will have its own set of directions. Do not spend time reading these or listening to these during the test. You should know all of the directions long beforehand, you should memorize them. That way, you don't spend time reading them, you go straight to the task at hand. Okay? So know the test very well. Now, the best way to actually know the test is to practice taking the test. Practice the test. Now, I don't mean do, like, 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there, 15 minutes here. I want you to sit down at least once a week from the time you registered or started thinking about it until the actual test day. There are lots of places where you can get full practice tests. The Cambridge books are excellent for that. They are past papers and they're real tests. Make sure that you do a full test at least once a week from beginning to the end. Give yourself three full hours undistracted. Now, what does this mean? When you go to the official test centre you cannot take your phone in with you. You do not have internet, you do not have music, you do not have anything. You have you in a room with a bunch of other people.

Learning English without Moving to an English-Speaking Country (+ Get My Book - AJ #23)

02:38
Learn English without moving to an English-speaking country. Be sure to get your free book here: https://www.tofluency.com/5-step-plan/ Quick tips: - Listen as much as you can: https://www.tofluency.com/improve-english-listening/ - Change your environment to all English - Practice your speaking online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbLFUMQZ-do - Use these two methods to improve your speaking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGQ0DMpWHUk //////// TRANSCRIPT //////// Max is here. Okay... Thanks for your help. I'm loving your speech and instructions. Is it really possible to improve my English if I don't live in a country where people speak English as their native language? I'm from Brazil. Thanks a lot. Great to have you here, max. This is a question I get a lot, and you know, a lot of you want to know this. Is it possible to learn English in Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, you know, Azerbaijan - in countries where it's not the native language? And yes. You can reach a high level of English no matter where you live. The internet has changed that. Completely. Think about 15-20 years ago: to be able to listen to English conversation in Brazil, you had to buy those CDs from a language school or a book store that were really expensive. Or you had to buy the cassettes (before the CDs). But now, you can have free conversations on a variety of different topics - an unlimited amount of audio playing in your ear all the time. As much as you want to have it. And that's what you need, you know, as an English learner you need lots and lots of input. You're able to practice your English, you're able to watch TV in English, you're able to have conversations online, you're able to take these lessons, you're able to sign up for courses online. Obviously, if you live in foreign country, you'll have more spontaneous conversations - and it is easier to get the input; to listen to conversational English. But you can set up your own world of English no matter where you're from. And you just have to do the best you can with what you have. So, if you live in Brazil, then you can - as I said before - you can listen to things online, listen to podcasts, listen to radio shows, watch TV, have conversations with people online - and in you live in a very busy area with English speakers, you can make English-speaking friends no matter where you are as well. So, it's definitely possible. And yeah - it's just about you making the most of the resources on offer. ---------- Please share this video if you found it useful. Thanks. 5 Tips To Improve Your English - From My Experience Learning English by Myself

09:51
✅ Mini Curso Gratis de 7 días▐ (audio+pdf) http://bit.ly/2yLJXPA ★ 📲 Instagram🔥 @philipebrazuca +videos todos los días en http://bit.ly/2GddrLh I never took English classes or traveled outside South America and I hated grammar books so I didn't use them either, too boring!! One of the things that is really helpful to learn a language is deep immersion, in this video I will share 5 tips to learn English quickly and easily while you have fun. You will see that is possible to learn a language EVEN if you are not living in the country where the language is spoken. I grew up in a city in Brazil that was really difficult to find someone who was fluent in English to learn with, that said you can imagine how hard it was to start learning English living there. I will briefly describe my recommendations to learn English by taking some actions that CHANGED everything, not just with English but with any other language I wanted to learn. ***************************************** 1º - Have DISCIPLINE [Tips to learn English Quickly] Having discipline in any thing that you want to do in your life will change the whole game, most of people are always talking about motivation, but motivation alone is nothing, I rather have a lot of discipline and no motivation, let’s say motivation is just that you are willing to do something but it doesn’t mean that you will do actually, you need to FOCUS on what you want and have discipline to keep in track. If you can have DISCIPLINE plus MOTIVATION… (PERFECT) 2º - Create an English Environment [Tips to improve English listening Skills] When you surround yourself with the language you are learning it’s impossible not to practice, put your cellphone in English, Laptop even take notes in English. Let’s say you are learning Brazilian Portuguese, I highly recommend buying a Brazilian T-Shirt, that way when someone who’s from Brazil or even someone who’s learning Portuguese as well will get attracted to you because of common interest. I did that with my Canadian Jacket hehehehe AAAND because of that I really improved my grammar and pronunciation by talking to people who would come to me asking if I were Canadian. You can also get an EXCLUSIVE SIM CARD just to use with WhatsApp and ONLY add people who speak in English, by doing so you can improve your English vocabulary, grammar and not to mention you will make new friends, this will motivate you even more to keep learning. 3º - Read books [Tips to improve your vocabulary in English] What kind of book would you read in your own language? Perhaps something you really like? Maybe something that makes you feel motivated by reading and talking to your friends about it? I encourage you to follow this idea by reading a book in the language you are learning, you can even start with some book that you’ve read before NO PROBLEM, the idea here is to expose yourself to new words and the grammar structure. The more you read the more words you learn and you can use them during conversations or texting your friends in English on WhatsApp. 4º - Listen to Podcasts [Speak English Fluently - The Secret to Learn English Fast] Listening to Podcasts will improve your listening skills, choose podcasts with INTERVIEWS, by doing that you will notice how the natives communicate between them, just pay attention and repeat the words and slangs that they will use, and OF COURSE, listen to topics that you enjoy, in the video I share some of my favorites podcasts that I’m currently listening, REALLY GOOD CONTENT. You will learn how to speak English fluently and to use slangs 5º - Go to meetings [Tips to Improve Listening and Speaking English skills] This part is pretty exciting because you will put in practice everything, I recommend websites like MeetUp.com , Internations.org and Couchsurfing.org to look for meetings nearby you home, if you don’t find any meeting you can CREATE one and invite people, make sure to go to places where you will have native speakers around so you can have conversation and learn more of the language with them. You can even go to the touristic places of your hometown and talk to anyone that you hear speaking in the language you are learning. That’s it guys, somethings I did to learn how to speak English fluently and I’ve never been in the US or Canada or any other country that speak in English, I HOPE some day I will !! =D and of course if you are learning Portuguese take a look on my Youtube channel www.youtube.com/philipebrazuca/ the same method I used to learn English is the method I use in my classes to teach Portuguese. Have a good one!! :D *********************************************************************
