21. Exchanges, Brokers, Dealers, Clearinghouses

01:09:22
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) As the starting point for this lecture, Professor Shiller contrasts the view of economics as the theory of the allocation of scarce resources with the view of economics as the study of exchange. After a discussion of the difference between brokers and dealers, he outlines the history of securities exchanges from ancient Rome, to the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and Jonathan's Coffee House in London, until the formation of the New York Stock Exchange. He complements this historic account with an overview of securities exchanges all over the world, covering India, China, Brazil, and Mexico. An example of a limit order book allows him to elaborate on the mechanics of trading at the National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (NASDAQ). Subsequently, he turns his attention to the growing importance of program trading and high frequency trading, but also discusses their impact on the stock market crash from October 19, 1987, as well as on the Flash Crash from May 6, 2010. When talking about fairness in financial markets, particularly with regard to the relation between private investors and brokers, he discusses the National Market System (NMS), the Intermarket Trading System (ITS), and consolidated quotation systems. He concludes this lecture with some reflections on the operations of dealers, addressing the role of inside information and the Gambler's Ruin problem. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Exchanges of Non-Monetary Assets | Intermediate Accounting | CPA Exam FAR | Chp 10 p 4

46:39
Nonmonetary  assets  such  as  inventory  or  property,  plant,  and  equipment  are  items whose  price  may  change  over  time.  Controversy  exists  in  regard  to  the  accounting  for  these  assets when one nonmonetary asset is exchanged for another nonmonetary asset  18.  As  stated  previously,  ordinarily  companies  account  for  the  exchange  of  nonmonetary assets on the basis of the fair value of the asset given up or the fair value of the asset received, whichever is clearly more evident. Thus, companies should  recognize immediately any gains or losses on the exchange. The  rationale for immediate  recognition is that most transactions have  commercial  substance  and  therefore  should  be  recognized.  An  exchange  as commercial substance if the future cash flows change as a  result of the transaction. An exchange of trucks with different useful lives might have commercial substance while an exchange of trucks with no  significant difference in useful lives would probably not.  19.  Companies immediately recognize losses they incur on all exchanges. The accounting for gains  depends  on  whether  the  exchange  has  commercial  substance.  If  the  exchange  has  commercial  substance,  the  company  recognizes  the  gain  immediately.  However,  the  rule  for immediate  recognition  of  a  gain  when  an  exchange  lacks  commercial  substance  is  treated differently. If the company receives no cash (boot) in such an exchange, it defers recognition of a gain.  If  the  company  receives  cash  in  such  an  exchange,  it  recognizes  part  of  the  gain immediately. The portion to be  recognized is equal to the  ratio of the cash  received to the total consideration received times the total gain indicated.  20.  To summarize these concepts, when a transaction involves an exchange of nonmonetary  assets,  losses  are  always  recognized.  Gains  are  recognized  if  the  exchange  has  commercial substance.  However,  gains  are  deferred  (not  immediately  recognized)  if  the  exchange  has  no  commercial substance, unless cash or some other form of monetary consideration is received, in which  case  a  partial  gain  is  recognized.  Also,  a  gain  or  loss  on the  exchange  of  nonmonetary assets is computed by comparing the book value of the asset given up with the fair value of that same  asset.  The  examples  shown  below  are  designed  to  demonstrate  the  various  situations where exchanges of nonmonetary assets are included Commercial Substance, Lacks Commercial Substance—No Cash Received. boot received, boot paid, Plant assets, property plant and equipment, PP&E, fixed assets, depreciation expense, accumulated depreciation, gain on disposal of plant assets, acquisition cost, land improvement, salvage value, residual value, useful life,

What are Cryptocurrency Exchanges?

01:07
What is a Cryptocurrency Exchange? Cryptocurrency Exchanges are places where you can turn one kind of digital asset into another. Cryptocurrency exchanges do this through trading pairs. A trading pair is a market between two assets, like Ethereum and Bitcoin allowing you to trade one for the other. Many crypto exchanges only support crypto pairs, but a few also support fiat pairs like the U.S. Dollar and Bitcoin. A centralized exchange takes custody of your funds to trade. Because many of these cryptocurrency exchanges are unregulated, you should carefully research an exchange before giving them your assets. A new wave of decentralized exchanges called DEXes are emerging that let you trade directly from your wallet, but are early in development and technically limited. Cryptocurrency exchanges are powerful tools that enable savvy crypto investors to gain access to liquid markets and a large number of digital assets and are a necessary component of a rapidly growing cryptocurrency ecosystem. Everything You Need to Know about 1031 Exchanges!

16:23
So let's say you've got yourself a rental property and you've worked hard to get rents up and keep expenses low. The property is profitable and you are looking to trade up by selling it and buying a more expensive property. The problem is that if you sell, you will have to pay capital gains tax on the sale as you would with a fix and flip or wholesale deal. That tax could be a heavy hit if you have sold the property for a gain, and it will stunt your growth as an investor. What can you do? 📘My New Book "Raising Private Capital" Available now on Amazon https://amzn.to/2B1xbfM That's where a 1031 exchange comes in. A 1031 is a vehicle through which you can sell rental real estate and roll all the gain into a new purchase. Sound good? In today's video, I go into detail on the rules of 1031's. 8 Cryptocurrency Exchanges for Buying and Selling Fiat like USD to Bitcoin and Ethereum

35:51
What are the top 8 cryptocurrency exchanges for buying and selling fiat currencies like USD, EUR, CAD, GBP, KRW, JPY, RUB, and CNH into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and hundreds more altcoins with Bittrex and Poloniex? Will you watch this video or read this description to find out? My favorite exchange is Coinbase which I have used to buy and sell hundreds of thousands of US Dollars in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. If you would like to sign up for Coinbase, would you use my link at https://www.coinbase.com/join/53f220834b1a7fd652000013 because Coinbase will give you and me $10 each in Bitcoin for the referral? Bitstamp at https://www.bitstamp.net might be the best global option if you can make a deposit with SEPA in the EU or a wire transfer in nearly any other country because Bitstamp's help at https://www.bitstamp.net/account/deposit/ states "REST OF THE WORLD. International bank transfer deposits carry 0.05% deposit fee on our side (minimum fee = 7.50 USD/EUR) and take 2 - 5 business days to credit. USD deposits credited to your USD balance won't be converted. All other currencies will be converted to the selected balance currency, free of charge." Ripple as XRP and Bitcoin as BTC are both available to trade with fiat currencies on Bitstamp. Credit cards can also be used to make purchases on Bitstamp with fees ranging from 5% to 8% as listed at https://www.bitstamp.net/fee_schedule/. Kraken at https://www.kraken.com has the greatest current selection I have found for an exchange which accepts incoming fiat deposits while trading with the most altcoins. Kraken accepts EUR SEPA deposits, USD, GBP, EUR, and JPY wire deposits as well as witdrawals. For Canadian dollars, wire deposits are free and EFT withdrawals are $10 with a $25,000 daily max. In addition to Bitcoin, Kraken allows USD with EUR and a few CAD or JPY directly to Ethereum, Ripple, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, Dash, Monero, Zcash, USDT, Gnosis, and Stellar Lumens with Iconomi available from ETH and XBT which is Bitcoin. GDAX operates in the US, Europe, UK, Canada, Australia, and Singapore at https://www.gdax.com/ trading in BTC/USD, ETH/USD, ETH/BTC, LTC/USD, LTC/BTC, BTC/EUR, and BTC/GBP. Gemini at https://gemini.com is available in Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom, and the United States of America in 44 states with BTC/USD, ETH/BTC, and ETH/USD available for all via US Dollar wire transfers. xBTCe at https://www.xbtce.com accepts wire transfers from many countries including the USA, China, and Russia with native language support in English, Russian, and Chinese. Wall of Coins at https://wallofcoins.com/en/ is available in the USA, Canada, and more countries soon for direct cash deposits via local bank accounts in Bitcoin and Dash. Local Bitcoins at https://localbitcoins.com/ allows buyers and sellers in 248 countries to make cash and online transactions directly for Bitcoin with generally 10% or higher above marketplace costs. In summary, I think Coinbase, Bitstamp, and Kraken are three of the best places online to use USD, EUR, CAD, and GBP to buy directly into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Dash, and more altcoins. GDAX, Gemini, and xBTCe are great alternatives especially for KRW, JPY, RUB, and CNH. Wall of Coins and Local Bitcoins are effective for changing cash to Bitcoin to then use on an exchange like Bittrex or Poloniex. The U.S. Stock Exchanges

02:19
The U.S. Stock Exchanges The U.S. stock market comprises three major stock exchanges for day trading. Stock exchanges are businesses that make their profits from commissions and services. The stock exchanges compete among themselves by appealing to different business niches. Each stock exchange has its own unique specialties, technologies, advantages, and, of course, disadvantages. If you’re looking for an introduction to day trading in the US, here’s your basic guide. Meet the New York Stock Exchange The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is located on the corner of Wall and Broad streets. It is the largest stock exchange in the world, based on the market value of the companies traded on it, and therefore the highest number of day traders participate on this exchange. The market value, known as market capitalization or “market cap,” multiplies the number of publicly held shares of stock by the exchange-traded price of each share. The market cap of stocks traded in the NYSE exceeded $21 trillion as of June 2017. The NYSE trading list comprises more than 3,000 companies. It wasn't so long ago that NYSE market orders were handled by humans known as floor traders. In those days, the execution time of an NYSE transaction could take up to two minutes. But the unavoidable has happened to the world's largest stock exchange. The revolution started slowly. Nasdaq, the United States’ first computerized stock exchange, became the model when it began operations in 1971. It took some time, but computers have now taken over most processes at the NYSE, despite strong opposition by the day traders. Computerized day trading has provided exactly what the public wanted: greater competition, fewer commissions, greater transparency, and higher execution speed. Meet the Nasdaq The Nasdaq (formerly known as NASDAQ when it was an acronym for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) was established in 1971 as the world's first electronic stock exchange. Unlike the NYSE, it immediately computerized all of its trade processes. From that point on, day traders no longer needed to compete over each other’s shouts on the trading floor. Everything was push-button. The result: commissions slowly dropped, the quality of service improved, competition grew, and companies of a new type issued stocks and raised trillions of dollars. Within two decades, and with the proliferation of the internet, Nasdaq was accessible in the home of every trader. For the first time, the road to private trading was opened, day trading classes were being offered as were more services for beginner day traders. We can, in fact, say that the profession of day trading as we know it was born with Nasdaq’s founding. Meet the NYSE American The NYSE American was first established in 1842 as the American Stock Exchange. The NYSE acquired this stock exchange in 2008. NYSE American is now the NYSE's market for small-cap companies. Like the NYSE, it now has moved its processes to quick, effective computerized execution. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe for NEW You Tube trading lesson here: https://youtube.com/user/TradenetGlobalUK?sub_confirmation=1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helpful links: Join my trading group: Get education & a Funded Account: http://www.tradenet.com/join-funded-accounts/?affiliate_id=35955&affiliate_org=2&web_page=&placement=&campaign_id=7010O000000fKjw Watch my FREE live You Tube streaming Trading Room: https://www.youtube.com/c/TradenetGlobalUK/live Join a FREE 14 day trial in my live Trading Room: https://www.tradenet.com/14-day-free-trial/?affiliate_id=35955&affiliate_org=2&web_page=&placement=&campaign_id=7010O000000fKjw Watch all my lessons here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb9tmPwCEfFjZWiIEYa4BfF4BZX0F0mWz View the FREE "Part one" of my trading book "The Market Whisperer" here: http://books.tradenet.com/ Buy my best selling book at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1540353524 Open a Colmex account (Non-US residents): https://services.colmexpro.com/registration/start.aspx Watch all my day trading live videos at: http://www.youtube.com/user/TradenetGlobalUK/videos Contact Tradenet: [email protected] Contact Meir Barak: [email protected] Visit our website: www.tradenet.com Germany: www.tradenet.de

Non-Taxable Exchanges | Section 1031 Exchange | Income Tax Course | CPA exam Regulation

50:14
Section 1031 requires nontaxable exchange treatment if the following requirements are satisfied: The property is like-kind property. The form of the transaction is an exchange. Both the property given up and the property received are either “used in a trade or business” or “held for investment.” Like-kind exchanges only apply to real property used for business or investment purposes. Property held for personal use, inventory, business and investment personal property, domestic property exchanged for foreign property, and partnership interests (both limited and general) do not qualify under the like-kind exchange provisions. The same is true for financial instruments (like stock, bonds, or a note), even though they are held for investment. It’s important to understand that manipulation can come in all different forms. I think it’s good to know what they are, why they happen and although we’d all love to know who exactly is behind these malicious moves, it isn’t possible to know exactly, although some instances might be easier to determine that than others. In this video, I want to clarify one of the different ways that manipulation can occur, explain who could be doing it and their motivation. If this is something you’re interested in learning more about, keep an eye out for more videos I will be publishing tomorrow and the next day that will cover other forms of market manipulation as well. Today I’m talking about exchanges and wash trading. So wash trading is the practice of creating multiple trades with one account and fulfilling them with another account; both of these accounts, or all accounts that are involved are controlled by the same entity. If you’re new to trading, at first glance this might seem like a silly thing to do. Why would someone bother to buy and sell their coins to themselves? First, it depends who is doing it and from there it is easier to understand the motivation behind it. It could be individual traders, or it could be the exchange itself. Today I want to explain why an exchange would want to fake high trading volumes and in the videos to come this week I’ll dive deeper into why and how individual traders can manipulate the crypto markets. Let’s dig into the exchanges. If you’re skeptical of centralized exchanges, good, you should be. There was a report released last month by the researchers for Blockchain Transparency Institute which has revealed that the vast majority of exchanges listed on the popular website Coinmarketcap are claiming to have much higher volume than what is real and from organic users. We’re talking only about 5 exchanges have legit trading volumes from legit traders. There are some sinister reasons why these exchanges would do this. First off, it’s cheaper and quicker to lure users onto their exchange by creating and then reporting fake volume than it is to build a marketing campaign and actually organically grow a user base. But the real money isn’t in the user base and the fees collected from their trades. The real money comes from the listing fees for the different cryptocurrencies that want to benefit from the exposure of all of those traders. Keep in mind that most of that volume is fake, and the user base doesn’t really exist. These exchanges are getting paid by cryptocurrencies to be listed on an exchange that gets most of its trading volume from the exchange itself and its bots and their wash trades. So I’m going to encourage you to be very weary of new exchanges that are boasting trading volumes that surpass well-known, long standing exchanges. Not only are they most likely faking this volume to lure you in, they are raking in the cash from desperate cryptocurrencies. If an exchange is willing to do this, I can only imagine what they would be willing to do with your cryptos if you chose to transfer them there. Who knows, maybe it would suffer a mysterious hack and suddenly your cryptos are lining their pockets and buying their lambos. Some will blame coinmarketcap for blindly or who knows, maybe not so blindly, publishing unrealistic trade volumes for these exchanges. But most will blame the lack of regulation in this space for allowing these scams to take place. Both would be correct. But I’m going to encourage you to search solutions like self-regulation and who is working to make this a better reality in the crypto space. In the final video of this market manipulation series I will be covering some of these efforts and what they have accomplished so far.

That's where IM Valeri Lilov comes in with his Comprehensive Beginners course, and in this free preview, Valeri will show you how to decide whether to exchange a piece for another. The art of simplification over the chess board is an aspect of the game that every player should learn if they want to improve their chess and reach higher levels. You'll need to knowing which pieces of your opponent you need to trade and when is the best moment to do so. At the same time, you need to know which of your own pieces you should strive to keep on the board, and which pieces you can afford to swap off. There's more to exchanging chess pieces than simply their material value. For example, a bishop and a knight are roughly valued as equal, but if the position is open, a bishop can dominate a knight! Likewise, if the position is closed, a bishop isn't very effective while a knight comes into its own. When the game is in the early stages, a knight is more valuable because it can jump over other pieces. But as the game progresses, the bishop becomes the more valuable piece becayse it can cover and control many squares on the board. Likewise, a rook is not as valuable in the early stages of the game but can be deadly as the game progresses and lines get opened up. It is important to remember that a piece’s importance fluctuates during the game. ► Corresponding article from this video with extra goodies: ****https://ichs.co/2toz0ih **** ► Come checkout the iChess.net shop, we have the world’s largest collection of chess videos and chess courses: https://ichs.co/iChessShop ********** Other Videos from iChess ********** ► Subscribe to our main Youtube Channel: https://ichs.co/iChSubscribe ► Check out our Master Method video series: https://ichs.co/MasterMethod Checkout our most recent video: https://ichs.co/latest-chess-video ********** FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL: *********** Facebook: https://ichs.co/iChessFB Twitter: https://ichs.co/iChessTwitter YouTube: https://ichs.co/iChSubscribe ********** Our Other YouTube Channels *********** iChess en español: https://ichs.co/iChessESP

Best Cryptocurrency Trading Exchange www.bullsoncryptostreet.com Kunal discusses his recommended trading brokers including Coinbase and Gdax, Poloniex, and Bitifnex. Each exchange has its pros and cons, and using an exchange depends on where you live and the money you wish to deposit/withdraw from your crypto account. These exchanges offer the best for people looking to day trade and swing trade cryptos. The biggest things we want to look out for is volatility and liquidity, customer service, and withdrawal/deposit options. Since cryptos are a new market, not all exchanges are perfect in and offer everything you want. What we do as traders is use a few exchanges so we can always get into upcoming plays. Which is all the more reason to consider looking into use decentralized exchanges. Not available in Hawaii, Wyoming, or Minnesota. Kraken is meant for experienced traders. You can trade with many different cryptos as well as a number of different fiat currencies. Allows for margin trading Poloniex: As I mentioned earlier, this exchange deals with a lot of volume which is good for making trades, but a few months ago it reached the point where the poloniex team was unable to handle the drastic surge in users. Causing trades to come to a halt mixed with severely delayed customer service which resulted in whole bunch of panic and a drop in faith in the exchange itself. That being said, Poloniex is still a very popular exchange that offers advanced trading options like margin trading and lending as well. Bittrex also is an exchange designed purely for cryptocurrencies and I personally think this exchange is slightly better designed than Poloniex and far better than Kraken. ShapeShift is similar to a decentralized exchange in that they do not hold any of your funds. They basically act as the medium for your trades.

Bitcoin Q&A: Decentralised exchanges with fiat

07:03
What is the future of decentralised exchanges? Is it possible to have them with fiat gateways? Many of the same mechanisms (ex. multisignature, timelocks) that allow the Lightning Network and payment channels to function will also be useful in building decentralised exchanges such as Bisq (https://bisq.network/). Except for cash, there is always a certain degree of risk when exchanging for fiat, because they use centralised systems and transactions can be reversed. Security Token Essentials - Exchanges

05:13
In our latest video we are taking a deeper look into the next big thing in crypto being Security Tokens and today is time to place Security Token Exchanges under the microscope. And it is not going to be the most technologically innovative crowdfunded solution that is likely to be the big winners but more existing market players from the two spheres of crypto exchanges and stock exchanges, spending big bucks to acquire firms that give them compliance to legal regulations to get to market. One of the bigger players with progress is Tzero, which is a project from online retail giant, Overstock. They had their own STO/ICO this year via a private sale, raising $ 138 m, and have recently issued the tokens which become tradeable for non US citizens in January. They have access to more funds through ongoing deals involving Overstock and have built a demo front end of the exchange, and they are aiming for a launch one year after the ICO, being August 2019. They have a partnership recently in place with Polymath, the STO issuance platform and Box Digital ( who are part owned by Toronto Stock Exchange) . Most of the market is expecting big things from this player. Circle the crypto startup unicorn firm currently valued at $ 3bn are making serious plans to enter the sector, along with their numerous other plans to expand into all areas of the crypto market. They have crypto exchange knowledge in the group, from their previous purchase of Poloniex, they are said to be chasing a regulated banking license, and they have acquired SeedInvest, a functioning American crowdfunding platform that gives them immediate access to over 200 000 existing investors. Coinbase have been readying themselves to enter this sector by aquisition as it would be a far longer route by original applications. So far they have bought, Venovate, Keystone Capital Corporation and Digital Wealth LLC to get the necessary licenses for a planned exchange offering in 2019. VRBex are in private sale aiming to raise $ 100 million for a security token exchange offering that is planned for 2019. Templum Markets was set up in 2017 with about $12 million in VC funding, and since then they have got themselves to operational status by purchasing SEC approved Liquid M Capital who had a functioning Alternative Trade System (ATS) . They have conducted one STO/ICO for American accredited investors for BanQu ( a digital identity protocol project) and also Security Tokens for Regis Aspen Winter Resort but neither are to the point of secondary trading yet. Also they have struck a deal with Indiegogo, the crowdfunding platform to give them a wider possible client base. Sharespost is a long time player in the equity market as registered dealer and broker and raised $ 15 million to push them into the new Security Token exchange marketplace. They have struck strategic partnerships with Securitize and also crypto exchanges, OKCoin, Stellar Decentralized Exchange and Huobi. Currently building out their solution on their GLASS platform. Open Finance make a big play that they are the only live American SEC approved secondary market for security tokens but they deliberately cloud the meaning of live, which seems to mean you can register, and go through KYC, not actually have a trading platform to use. They keep announcing big things but as yet have not really gone operational, but you have to backtrack through their telegram channel to get a clearer picture. They say that they have just listed Spice for secondary trading for non US citizens. Funderbeam is an operating player that has a blockchain solution working that raises capital for smaller startups and has the ability within that platform to allow trading of those equities. They have plans to widen their offering to allow security token trading. Let's take a look at the existing stock exchanges who are bidding for a bigger piece of the pie by entering the Security Token sector for trading. Malta obviously now legislating itself into the title of blockchain island is a healthy environment to be in, and Malta Stock Exchange through its fintech arm MSX looks to capitalize on that, already having MOUs in place with Binance and Okex who have opened operations in Malta. No definite dates but one to watch. London Stock Exchange is moving ahead after negotiations with the FCA, having achieved agreement to proceed with a year operations in sandbox conditions, with Natwest and 360 before seeing about opening the facilities to a wider audience. Six Swiss Exchange announced in June of this year their intent to enter the sector and have been busy in negotiations with the authorities whilst aiming for a launch in 2019. Gibraltar Stock Exchange - GSX in 2017 started moving towards blockchain and is in negotiations with the regulators to get the Gibraltar Blockchain exchange opened which is looking like 2019 at present.
