Is the GTX 1060 5GB Any Good? In today's video we benchmark this nvidia graphics card vs an ASUS DUAL OC 1060 3GB and also compare it vs the STRIX 6gb. On top of that NVIDIA also have some new features in the geforce experience that are worth a look, in particular the new game filter. Lastly big thanks to ASUS and NVIDIA for sponsoring out this video.

Looks like the exact situation as the 1050 3 GB. It's a crippled 1060 6 GB and that memory bandwidth does make a difference, although not as drastic as on the 1050 3 GB. The only way I can understand Nvidia doing this is because they're running low on 512 MB VRAM chips and started using the 1 GB variants to level out stock, hence the 160 bit bus. TLDW, it's a pointless card. Great video Bryan! This is the first dedicated 5 GB review I've seen (excluding Linus' Aliexpress card)
Tech YES City Yes I'd love to send a screenshot. What would you like me to capture exactly? My subscribed content feed? As long as I don't view the content yet it will not be in the feed. Once I view said new upload it will showup. I'm having the same issues with EposVox content as well.
Hey guys I need help!!! I’m gonna build a budget rig for a friend. And i have to keep at 300 or less. I have 3 options rn.
1) buy a dell or similar and throw a psu and 1050 or 960 in there.
2) Buy a prebuilt Fx-6300 build with 16gb ram and a 1tb hdd cheap psu gt 720 with razer black widow kb and chroma mouse with a firefly mouse pad for 180 and replace the gpu with a sub 100 dollar gpu.
3)Buy an i5-2400 cpu, motherboard, 8gb ram, 450 evga psu, a 500gb hdd that I don’t use, cheap case and a sub 100 dollar gpu.
Also another thing to consider is that I found a gtx 1060 on let go for 130 and a gtx 1050ti for 100 on let go. And the fx prebuilt is also something I found on let go.
I just wanna try to get the best performance possible. I know the fx 6300’s single core performance isn’t all that good but the friend likes to make YouTube videos which is why it’s a choice considering it’s more cores and ram overall.
Hello Brain, im a big fan <3
Can i ask u a question? Im going to have X58 rig. Im planing to have EVGA X58 classified 3 mobo.
But the specs in PDF file i downloaded from EGVA website just said that it support DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600+
Did 1600+ mean that i can use DDR3 2400MHz ram? Or i just stay with 1600MHz?
Im planing to have X58 + 12gb ram + X5675 with 240 aio and OC to 4.5. Maybe 5.0 in the future. Many tks
It was my birthday yesterday and all i got was a monster energy drink and a half a bag of tobacco lol. It would make me really happy to win because I'm trying to build a pc for 500 dollars cause that's all I can really justify... and.. you guessed it the gpu is sucking the soul out of my budget. Hopefully I win. Much love.
Nice additions to the software suite, I wonder if they're that useful though in the long run, I guess competitive gaming is bound to ban them since they could give a competitive advantage. I wish nvidia made it clear if there's more to it than just a memory change, having to thouroughly research video cards is not fun even for those who are into more than light or casual gaming. Nice pair of glasses, looking good man.
That 5GB one is... confusing. Who is this for? I see something about gaming cafes when I look it up, but who else?
And thanks for the chance to win the 3GB card! I know I likely wouldn't win, but on the off chance I do, that'd make building a new rig (to finally give this current one a rest) much easier.
As far as I know, these cards were intented for china market and especially to cibercafes in china... It's really surprising to see the 3gb variant over the 5gb one due to the lower bandwith even if the 5gb has the same number of cuda cores
What are the clock speeds, gpu & ram, during the tests? Otherwise the fps numbers are useless. For comparative results they all must be identical. The title says it's a comparison so record and present all the relative information i.e gpu & ram clock speeds. And once again the clock speeds MUST be the same on all of them or the test is invalid.
I'd expect any card with more Cuda cores but less bandwidth to run slower than the standard model until you reduce resolution to find that card's sweet spot. By reducing resolution you make memory bandwidth a moot point, then the extra Cuda cores become important. There may be games that do not require a lot of memory bandwidth by design, those games will also perform better with more Cuda cores than the standard model.
5gb of vram would be a sensible amount for the standard 1060 rather than 6gb. In my experience a lot of games will use over 4gb of vram at 1440p but rarely over 5gb. When adding extra aa to push it closer to 5gb a 1060 will run out of raw power before that buffer will be exceeded at 1440p.
3gb is not really enough vram in some games either, especially at 1440p. So the 5gb version would be ideal if the bus wasn't so crippled
Something for the TYC Family :D
Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 11 = A5B74-D5366-914DF-A9AD6
Smart Defrag 6 PRO = 40832-289B8-09170-9E5D1
Driver Booster 5 PRO = E3FB9-409F4-27AE0-75BA1
If your not fast - your last :D
Brian, I'd really like to see a short followup on this video. The memory is clearly the problem as stated, so why not try a memory OC? iirc memory oc helped a lot with other bandwidth-limited cards like the gtx 960.
Btw I LOVE that asus "plug in your case fans to your gpu" feature. When I run an AIO on my cpu with a air cooled gpu, the gpu dumps way more heat than my cpu when gaming. I end up with case fans on low, with a screaming gpu fan.
Love the special effects you're using in this vid, like the smoking hot unboxing of the the Asus Dual OC card. Also, I'm really interested in Nvidia's game filter. Looks like it might be some serious competition to mods like SweetFX and Reshade. Just to bad you have to use the Geforce Experience to attain that level of customization. Plus, I'm really surprised Nvidia didn't make an GTX 1060 TI. Almost every other tier card got a TI.
More completely pointless cards from NVIDIA, just why? I honestly don't get it, who would pay a tiny amount less just to have one gig less with the same specs otherwise. I would just get the 1060 6gb or a 3gb, which is what I have in my personal PC. If these things continue I'm going to switch over to AMD next time around, as long as AMD stays competitive and I think they will. the 570 and 580 are great cards respectively, their higher end stuff is lack luster in comparison to NVIDIA but I just don't need anything that high end.
Please help us !!!!!
I am a Citizen of Bangladesh 🇧🇩
This is a plea for help.
On 29th of July 2018 school going students were killed by a reckless bus driver. The students protested with slogans on the same bus stand.
Since then All students of Bangladesh are protesting for safer roads and more strict regulations.
Their intention was never to harm even a single person. Neither it is now.
But today POLICE AND PEOPLE OF CHATRO LEAGUE tortured students with tear shell, they beat students brutally and raped the female students (on 4th August 2018). The students are trying to defend themselves with sticks and tree branches that they've found on the streets.
4 students have been murdered and other 4 female students have been raped. And the Government is sitting there silent.
WE NEED YOUR HELP. PLEASE.
LET THE WORLD KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN BANGLADESH 🇧🇩

1060 3gb is now around 220 Euros, 1050ti 180 Euros, RX 580 4gb 250 Euros.. 1060 3gb is the best price/performance gpu out there.. Second hand 1060 not worth it, most sellers dont realise the recent price drop.. second hand 1060 should be 150 Euros, but they want more then 200 Euros..
Is there really a need for 3 variants of the same card? Nvidia are really milking this generation. The 3 kinds of 1060, the 2 kinds of 1050, the 2 kinds of 1030 (one with ddr4 ffs) its getting rediculous.
the ext_fan headers on the gpu are bullshit. nice idea, but implemented so poorly, its sad. min pwm is 40%. you need gputweakII which is poorly programmend and i couldnt get my card to overclock with this program. max was 1865 mhz on 1080 which goes up to 2100mhz with afterburner. just use speedfan instead and onboard headers
If you're looking for cheap but good CPU in the DDR3 era, look for i7-2600k/2700k. These can run on Z68 and Z77 motherboards, these are soldered so can be massively overclocked (~4.7 GHz achievable) and cooled easily with <$50 coolers.
This is just the next episode of "NVidia doing shitty anti-consumer stuff". They already have a 3GB and a 6GB version, they already had different core count versions that were totally unclear for consumers. And now they bring out a 5GB model. 90% of consumers will just think: 5GB, that is in between the 3GB and 6GB version, but closer to the 6GB. But in the end, it is slower than both.
I sometimes really wonder why people still buy NVidia cards, as with that they are sponsoring a company that does shitty anti-consumer, anti-competitor things again and again and again...
These are models intended ONLY for use in chinese gaming cafe's and have a lower bus width to prevent people using them to mine on. You will never ever see this product in stores. How are people not getting this? So many mentally challenged people making uneducated comments.
I got also an 8gb version, it cost me 210 like 2 months ago (used). I have stressed it a lot and it works fine, no funny gizmos or anything. It was from a mining rig, and the guy let me "choose" from his 12 rx580, they were all identical except for two 4gb rx580 he had. He even installed the original Bios in that moment we were testing and stressing the card.
I also have an Asus Dual but RX 580 and normally AMD cards run warmer than Nvidia. My Dual runs at 65-75 Cº depending on the game. The max RPMs are around 2500, and it is a bit noisy but not that much. What I did notice is that the noise increases rapidly as the dust accumulates over the gpu fans, so I clean it often.
