I am a native speaker from Australia. I mainly speak British English.
Correct your English - Common Errors
Good observation! It's normally fine to use "have". E.g. I had lunch --- I had a sandwich for lunch -- I'll have the Greek salad (when ordering food)
"Take" is only used in very specific ways in relation to food and drink. E.g. I take milk and sugar with my coffee.
Sometimes you might hear something like: "Do you want to take lunch now?" But the idea there is that you are taking your lunch break.
And in Singapore English they apparently use "take" all the time, but that's not representative of how most native speakers speak ;).
I knew all of them except Thank God. It surprised me! :O
I always heard people say Thanks God but the correct way is Thank God! So I correct my mistake. Thank you :)
And by the way, when I think of it, in my native language we say the same 😂 it feels obvious to say Thank God
Thank's .Teacher Max, I can say" I take my kids to the Funfair on the ferris wheel". And "I take him on carnival rides". Is it correct?
2) why can't we say " I take him to swim instead of taking him swimming"?
You can say: I take my kids on ferris wheel at the funfair. And: I take him on carnival rides. 😀
If you don't specify where you're taking him, you would say: I take him swimming.
But you can say: I take him to swim at the pool every Saturday. I don't know why...
Once you said you are a feminist so i hope you dont get mad about this. But i do not only enjoy your lessons but your look too. Youve got an interesting style in relation to your clothes and acessoires.
It's OK, I'm not an "extreme feminist", I just think that men and women should have equal rights. And thank you :). I don't mind compliments about what I wear. I just don't really like it when people say things like "you're pretty" in response to an educational video that required some thought and creativity, particularly when that's the ONLY thing they say. In addition, your style and what you wear are products of choice, whereas how you look is just how you were born.
It's very strange, but in English you can actually say both "fill in a form" and "fill out a form". I don't know why! 😂
Oh, I didn't realise some Germans have now started saying that... interesting. I was just taught to say "es/das ist logisch" for "it makes sense".
"to fill in a form". Im Deutschen sagt man ein "Formular ausfüllen", deshalb sagen viele Deutsche "to fill out a form".
No... We always have to use "to" (to dance to a song). However, you can say "to dance salsa" (because it's a style of dance), and in the context of ballet, you might hear something like "they danced The Nutcracker".
I translate this lesson in French on YouTube but as it's the first time I made this, I don't know how to save this translation and YouTube don't give me a hand.
I hope it will be registered when I shut YouTube.
Thank you very much!! I'll have a look at them shortly (not that I'll understand anything ;)).
Haha, yes, I didn't put that in the subtitles because I don't know what YouTube's rules are in regard to swearing and how that affects advertisers, and it's easier to find if it's transcribed!
Thanks for your reply. I tried to make Slovak subtitles for the first time. At the very end of your video, there was no space for your final words, though. :)
It was something like this: Yes, uhh, fu ..'kin' hell!
It is 2:25 A.M. and finally, I am going to bed.
Thanks a lot of your explained these words. I have done many mistakes when i use these words because Vietnamese is drinking medicine. Norwegian is eating medicine and English is taking medicine. Have a great weekend Max.
