You're welcome! Thanks for watching. As long as you're enjoying the book, that's the most important thing! The best way to learn is to use material that you like ;). All the best, and keep talking to yourself! :)

Have you lived in America? Your accent sounds somehow American I don't know if you someone of you agree with me.
English with Max (6 months ago)
No, but I know that my accent is quite "neutral". I lived in Europe for several years.
Alfonso Rivera (6 months ago)
Sure; talking to ourselves really works and it's also a good way to think carefully what we are about to say or do... even in our native language! Every time I listen to your Spanish I confirm that it is much better if we consciously pick a particular English instead of speaking in a Frankenstein way what we consider a neutral English....Your Spanish from Spain is perfect! And I also know a few English native speakers who speak in a perfect Argentinean, Peruvian or Mexican Spanish!
English with Max (6 months ago)
Yes, I think it's definitely easier if we stick to a particular one :). But at the same time, I think the most important thing is to be clear and understandable. I should also add that Australian English is a bit of a mix between British and American English haha. E.g. Sometimes we pronounce the T in "better" like a normal T, and sometimes it's more like a D (American pronunciation)!

SO TRUE. I've noticed a huge difference in my pronunciation since I started reading Russian out loud in class
English with Max (6 months ago)
Looking back, I know I should've done it much more in Spanish. Why weren't we told earlier? 😂
Mark Viana (6 months ago)
Hi Max, I really liked these tips! ...So when i am speaking to myself in public, i tend to use earphone and pretend to talking to a friend or whatever, otherwise, no one going to stay beside me. I use this trick becouse, one day my mom catched me to talking to myself and she said: Son, you real need a friend. Thank you so much!
English with Max (6 months ago)
Haha, that sounds like a great idea! I wish I could say "I never care what people think", but it is a little embarrassing if people see you 😂.

Thanks for the video that explains the simple methods to improve English when it is find difficult to get a counterpart to speak. Personally, I feel like reading aloud a news paper and shadowing is quite easy.
English with Max (6 months ago)
My pleasure! If you find them easy to do, that's great!!
Leila BahariKia (6 months ago)
Thanks a lot dear Max. It was extremely useful. I start reading "You are a badass" book out loud and after each paragraph I listen to the audio book. I read the book before and because I like it the whole practice is becomeing more interesting. I think I should start to talk to myself now ;) or I can talk to my puppy in English :D. Have a wonderful day.
English with Max (6 months ago)
It's great that you're doing that! And you're right, it helps if you find the material interesting. Yes, talking to pets is also a great idea! I wish I'd thought to include that in the video :D.

Carlos Augusto (6 months ago)
Thank Max for your tips. they were quite good. By the way, Congratulations on your Spanish, although, I didn't understand anything you said...Nah, I'm kidding. To tell you the truth, your Spanish is excellent. On the other hand, How do I know if I reading English properly?, I mean, if the pronunciation of words is right?.
English with Max (6 months ago)
Thank you :). That's why I said to choose texts that aren't too hard ;). But you're right, it's still difficult to know if we're saying everything correctly. I'd just recommend looking up the pronunciation of all the words that you have doubts about. These online dictionaries are great for pronunciation: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/ https://www.thefreedictionary.com/ Or maybe focus more on imitation.
Ofidirecta Caselles (6 months ago)
Hi Max. Tanks for your always useful advice. Your Spanish level is almost perfect. I would like my English level was similar. Well, I do my best.

Thank you :). I lived in Spain for a year and a half, which helped a lot. Just keep practising!

Hey thanks for the video the tips are great but it does not work for me .I have tried everything but all are useless if you don't have speaking partner .I do read out loud I do imitiate english speakers I do shadow practise but when it comes to use those words that you have learned through imitiation or shadowing I can't use them with anyone .Ohhh I am frustrated 😭😭😭😭😭😭
English with Max (6 months ago)
I'm sorry to hear that... It's true that speaking with someone is the best way, but these types of exercises are better than nothing. Have you tried looking for a speaking partner online? If you Google "language exchange" you will find lots of websites for that.
Great tips, Max! Thank you so much.
Leo Touriste (6 months ago)
Very good tips! As always it's interesting to listen to you. Very efficient....or effective....What is the difference of meaning about these two words ? What is the most suitable in this case ? Many thanks for all.
English with Max (6 months ago)
Ah oui, je me souviens de votre nom (Jean-Luc B... ) dans les commentaires. En ce qui concerne la sécurité, je pense que c'est un choix personnel, mais à mon avis, on n'est jamais trop prudent ;). And you taught me something! I didn't realise that "efficace" meant both efficient and effective. Thanks!
Leo Touriste (6 months ago)
English with Max Thank for your answer, you are very effective. Merci beaucoup pour votre réponse, j'ai changé mon nom sur YouTube, conseil d'un de mes amis pour la sécurité. J'indiquait avant Jean-Luc B......... Est-ce vraiment utile ? Je sais que vous parlez très bien le français c'est pourquoi je vous ai écrit dans ma langue.
English with Max (6 months ago)
Thank you! Here I would probably say: Those techniques are very effective. "Efficient" basically means effective and quick ;). Click here for some example sentences: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/efficient https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/effective

Jair Giraldo (6 months ago)
I pretend to use shadowing technique. What do you think about this method??
Thiago Oliveira (6 months ago)
Jair Giraldo i apologize because i've spoken portuguese to you, in fact, i thought you were 'cause of your name. Lo siento. About the verb, i fortunately was right. Check Max's answer.
English with Max (6 months ago)
If you can do it regularly, I think it's great! (And in this context, we would say: I intend to use the shadowing technique. "Pretend" has a couple of different meanings.)
Jair Giraldo (6 months ago)
I understand the point but. Wordreference says: pretend to [sth] vi + prep Pretender⇒ vtr The young duke pretended to the Throne. El joven duque pretendía el trono.
Thiago Oliveira (6 months ago)
Jair Giraldo pretend é o verbo fingir. O que você na verdade deveria usar é o verbo "Intend" que significa pretender/ planejar. Bons estudos, irmão.
Jair Giraldo (6 months ago)
Thanks a lot, my teacher!!!

What a wonderful video, thank you so much for your very useful advices, and yes it's true I had the same experience about reading, I used to not read aloud, so I thought I had a good pronunciation till the day I decided to record myself, and with my surprise I realized that I didn't sound like I thought, that was only in my imagination. Now I know that reading not aloud can be tricky, and I've started reading aloud everytime I can this is helping me so very much! 😉 I love all of your videos, thanks for making them and thanks a lot for your help! Wish you a wonderful day! ☺ 🌷
English with Max (6 months ago)
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm happy you like my videos. Yes, I learnt the "hard way" about the difference between speaking aloud and whispering. It took me a while to properly realise that there was a big difference :). Have a nice week!

Thank you for your great efforts. It’s very difficult to talk with myself I think after a little time I may go crazy 😜 but I can imagine I speak with a native speaker like you and speak with you for many hours until you become tired 😓
English with Max (6 months ago)
Yes, it's probably best not to talk to yourself *too* much. :D
Henrique Baldy (6 months ago)

I usually talk to myself, like everyday. I really think it helps a lot. Furthermore, I use to read but as I can see I was going by the wrong way, just whispering. Thank you for helping!
English with Max (6 months ago)
Yes, not whispering definitely helps! It's great that you already do some things to practise your speaking :). I talk to myself a lot too!

English with Max (6 months ago)
Yes, the subtitles will need a little editing once I've reuploaded the videos. Basically a couple of sentences will need to be removed, and then the remaining subtitles shifted to the left, if that makes sense. If you don't mind doing it, it would be much appreciated, but I really don't want to bother you! So honestly, no pressure. My friend is American, but she learnt Russian and has lived in Russian-speaking countries ;)
Hi Max! Do you want to edit the subtitles for these videos a bit after uploading new version of these videos? Am I right? ...Or I can fix these subtitles, if you want. It's not difficult for me. Max, does your friend speak in Russian like a native or he learn Russian? I'm just interested...
English with Max (6 months ago)
Hi again, I know you've made Russian subtitles for a few of my videos. Unfortunately I noticed a mistake in my videos "cloth, clothes and clothing" and "breath/breathe", so I took them down so I can edit them. (The mistake is in the videos, not in the subtitles!) I've saved your subtitles, so hopefully I can reupload them once I've reuploaded the videos without having to make too many changes. I have a friend who speaks Russian who might be able to help me... I'm really sorry about that. Thank you again for contributions!
English with Max (6 months ago)
