English with Max (2 months ago)
I'm sorry, but I don't normally watch short films. However, there are LOTS of videos you can watch on YouTube. To improve your accent, just try to imitate (copy) native speakers, pausing the video when you need to.

Other than movies I watch english tutorials mostly for listening practice and the selection obviously your videos! They are interesting to follow. I would like to mention that I watched a couple of movies in order to develop my Enlgish. One of them is "Love comes softly". But I don't know I am not much able to follow the description of National Geo or Discovery channel ! Good to know the genre of movies like drama, comedy etc. I prefer to comedy dramas. Max, your ear ring is amazing! Waiting for more videos. Do you upload videos like "Catch a train in Australia" ? Many people may like travelogues. Thanks for helping me to improve my english through writing comments.
English with Max (1 year ago)
I'm glad it helped and that you now use that expression. :)
lal c (1 year ago)
Yeah, I had already seen that video and I did it again. I liked the countryside very much, the meadows, cows, river etc. I started to use the phrase or expression "add insult into injury". The facilities on the train looks similar to an aeroplane. Earlier, I didnt know what is a aisle seat. Thanks.
English with Max (1 year ago)
It's great that you watch a variety of things! Yes, I did a video on train travel, but it's not a travelogue - it's mainly about train vocabulary. However, you do see some Australian countryside. Here is the link. (Please be aware that it might seem like I'm complaining, but I'm not being serious. ;))https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7HCJYcYHI0&t=

Hi, Max.. I love this video of yours. Since before until, I have been struggling with the English language. I tried to make some improvement on myself. Since, I am a Filipino, i can understand the language easier except for those high words that I often forgot the meaning. About the improvement, I thought of five categories which I think can help you with your video. First, READING. This category is about reading books that you like. As for me, I love reading about supernatural stories. And I often searched in wattpad for a writer whom I can read the story as the way they want to talk or tell. I mean, on how the writer talks normally when speaking since it is easy to grasp the idea and you can normally pause as if you're the one telling the story. Second category, Writing. I tried to write stories. Anything that just came on my mind though it was not that easy from the start. Sometimes, if you can't write, i just write whatever comes on mine just for a start. Third category, Listening. Just like you suggest on this video, I watch movie with the kind of accent I want to adapt. The kind of accent that is easier to understand and want to copy. Normally, since I love watching cartoons, I preferred Naruto series since there are translations and the accent is okay for me. These first three categories are for my gathering of datas. The fourth and fifth are for my implementation of what I gathered. The fourth category is speaking. This one, I find it hard to find someone to talk to since I need a native speaker to help me on this. I want an environment who can I join to. If you have a suggestion on this, I would appreciate it. So what I did was to practice speaking or relaying the things I want to talk about. As if I am telling a story or doing some acting just to practice what I learned. And lastly, translating. Since, I am a Filipino, most of what I watched were Tagalog. I tried to translate it into English. I hope this helps since I did not last on this improvement I made since I find it difficult if I just do this alone.. hehehe.. Keep it up. I will follow your YouTube account and if I have suggestions, I will give some comments..

Hello, it's great that you're doing all those things to work on your English! Yes, to make big improvements, it's important to work on different language skills (reading, writing, speaking, etc). It sounds like you're on the right track because you use material that interests you. Keep up the good work and I wish you all the best!

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that line on your shirt was originally Baby Houseman's line from the movie Dirty dancing. I remember that movie quite well. Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze(may he rest in peace) made an excellent pair. They actually worked together in another film prior to that one which was called "Red Dawn". As for my favorites, there are too many to list but if the more obscure, the more esoteric, and the more odd they are, the more I enjoy them. Anything involving David Lynch usually ranks high on my list. I noticed that you had "Crossroads" listed in your speech bubble. Were you referring Britney Spears' film from 2002 or Ralph Macchio's film from 1986?
English with Max (1 year ago)
Haha, good memory! Yes, I was sad when he died. Far too young. I didn't know they did another movie together - I'll check it out! (I actually heard that they didn't always get along too well...) I'm afraid I'm referring to the Britney Spears film...

Hello I am from Iraq Ask your advice as a beginner in the English language What lessons to show in learning E Tips; Grammar; pronunciation; Vocabulary; listening practice; phrasal varbs??!
English with Max (1 year ago)
Hi Ahmed, I recommend you first watch videos by teachers who speak Arabic. After that you will see that other videos are easier. I have some grammar videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAN5U-htvE4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdheF1vfka0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv8zvUVUOOY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9Vfx4kaUp8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7iUFlAnlc4 My phrasal verbs videos might be a bit difficult if you're a beginner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MmuUYiEuFM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79SZ-FAxYtg
Thanks Max! I carried a watermelon?! (1987) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VyaXkK0I7s ... P.S. : I was two years old in '87. OH MY... :)
Yeah, I think so too.

Also, as a learner, I would like to say that sometimes drama movies overwhelm you with endless speeches. Most drama movies have an strong plot and they talk a lot. While action movies, they speak much less and they give you brakes between action scenes and simple talkings scenes. I have found them quite useful too.
English with Max (1 year ago)
Haha, that's true. I suppose I also consider a lot of action movies dramas, which is why I didn't mention them.
Al N (1 year ago)
hi Max, you have a good idea, thank you.

First movie I was thinking while you were talking in the video was "the shawshank redemption", which is also, by the way, my favourite movie ! I would also say that most movies with morgan freeman are good to learn and practice. He has a great voice and a clear pronunciation ! Thanks for the video !
English with Max (1 year ago)
You're right, he speaks very clearly! And I agree, The Shawshank Redemption is very good.
Luca Cocco (1 year ago)

Hi Max, thank you for this lesson! I think the movie is called "Dirty Dancing". I normally watch movies first in German and then in English.
English with Max (1 year ago)
That sounds like a good way to watch them. Yes, that's it! I watched it A LOT when I was younger. I even remember watching a dubbed version in Germany and saying to my flatmates that I thought one of the translations was strange (I knew the original so well 😂).
Oleg Jagga (1 year ago)
"Dirty Dancing" was very popular here in Russia ages ago :)
English with Max (1 year ago)
👍👍 It was one of my favourite movies when I was younger. That's why my sister gave me this T-shirt. :).

Thank you for your efforts. I totally agree with you people learn by different ways. For me I enjoy to watch stars of English on YouTube like you. I think you all should win Oscar and stand over the red carbt as well. Keep up a good work.👍
